Newbie Dilemma
#12
Those are very basic questions, which tells me that you should have someone with experience helping you out for the first while. The last thing you want to happen is damaging your car or equipment because of improper wiring. It does not take long to learn the basics if someone shows you, but doing it wrong from the beginning can be expensive and dangerous.

Well, I got all the wires installed, the amp placed on the back of my rear seat... problem now is, I can't find a possible place to pass the positive without drilling through the firewall. So, I'm probably gonna have a shop do that for me.

hey sirsleepalot.. I was havin the same dilemma as you yesterday and today decided to undertake my first amp installation (my previous one was shop installed). It was amazing firing it up after everything was done and everything going as it should have. My ego right now is so huge to think I just saved myself over 400$ (which is the quote I got from the shop) with a little readin and a lot of help from the awesome people on these boards. I have installed head units and wired speakers before but had never had experience with running things from the battery.. for some reason I thought it was going to be a lot harder than it actually was. Now I got a even sweeter sounding system. All you really have to do is read up on the many amp installin guides on the net and take the finer points (and the ones that are repeated in each guide.) Then go in depth from there and ask the questions here on the boards so you don't come in without any knowledge of the dialogue in peoples replies. Well best of luck to ya!

Well, I don't suppose anyone would care to come take a look to see where we can shove that wire through the car then?
(Or even better, someone who has a heated garage where I can go ! )

If u wanna come to Tbay, ur welcome. You're not always going to find a grommet - its a 50/50 split imho. Carefully inspect an open area on the firewall on BOTH SIDES to ensure its clear of obstructions (don't wanna drill into a wire harness or fuel/brake line) and drill your own hole! Make sure to use a grommet too!

I'm guessing Tbay is a tad far from Montreal... hehe...
But, i looked again today, and couldn't find anything, so I took an appointment to get it installed next friday... with any luck, I might even get to watch...
