Opinions Needed

HI, new to the boards here and was hoping I could get some help on some issues.

I recently purchased a 2007 Mustang Gt with a shaker 500 stereo. For those of you who dont know, its basically 4 5x7 (6x8) speakers powered by the stock and shitty head unit. And 2 shallow mount 7 or 8 inch subs in each door (own ported enclosure
) powered by a separate factory amp that claims to push out 500 watts.)

The 5x7's are garbage, tinny highs, lack of mids, and get really tiring so those have to go.

The stock door subs are actually decent in covering mid bass and kicks BUT THEY RATTLE THE OUT OF MY DOORS!

Because the car is new and I dont want to gut the head unit , i am planning on KEEPING it, for a while... I know i know, I will never get audiophile quality sound without changing it , but right now, I am not going that deep into my wallet.

I want something DECENT.

Here is my plan

Swap out 5x7's and replace with efficient and sensitive 2 ways (Infinity reference 5x7's look pretty promising)

Add my rockford p3001 amp and add a 12" sub to cover the lows. Need a suggestion as to what sub, as I had it powering a P2 but because it was a 4 ohm I was getting half the power I could have been getting.

My questions.

Anyone have any experience in replacing stockers with the infinity references?

Anyone have a suggestion of a good
(sp and sq ) sub that would team up well to the 300w (500 rms on birthsheet) 2 ohm monoblock amp?

Anyone know how to fix these goddamn rattles in the doors caused by the stock subs (dynamat??)

Thanks in advance.

San.

chances are if u keeping the stock HU u really wont get much sound improvement regardless of how amazing the aftermarket speakers are.

instead of spending it on everything else, use that money to get a new HU installed.

Image dynamics IDQ12 infinite baffle in your trunk would sound very nice and still leave u lots of room as no box is required. If u look around u might find some Ultimate B Quiet for a good price to deaden your trunk.

your after market sub and amp may over power the new speakers too... so I think you are on the right track looking for efficiency in the 5x7.

Dynamat or products like dynamat will help with the door just be careful because if you put too much down you may find it difficult to reassemble the door. I have also used and recommend Ideal duct seal in areas where the dynamat would be too difficult to apply

As far as subs and 5x7 brands go I recommend listening and buying what sounds best to you (it needs to make you happy not me)

Replacing the 5x7s is easy and nets decent results. Since the door panels will be off for the speaker replacement it's a great time to put on the sound deadener at the same time.

I added an amp and sub to a Shaker 500 just before Christmas - it worked out well.
