X-over fried=Amp into protect???
#1
the tweeter in my passenger door went out due to the xover crapping out on me for some reason, and soon after or around the same time my amp started going into protect with the gains low and not even turning the volume up
would the fried x over cause this to happen? its what i was told but just wanted to make sure
they are alpine type S components, and a RF 4004 4 ch amp

when using passive crossovers, the tweeter is part of the circuit that includes the woofer, the tweeter, and the crossover. when the tweeter blows or goes out, the values of the capacitors and inductors changes and the crossover will function very differently, often drawing a lot more current than normal. or if it's simply because the xo itself crapped out, it's the same type of thing. this is the most likely reason why your amp is going into protection.
