db drag rules
well first off this is Rob not Nic.. well everybody involved in this post .. remember we all live in Canada not in the US.. everybody thinks that theres "free" products in certain cars in canada.. well there not.. maybe in the us theres free gear cars but not up here theres not enough support for companys to really care about Canadian competitors.. thats just my two cents.. sure pricing maybe be alittle cheaper but when you buying 8/16/32 amps at a time you kinda entitled a discount.. but thats just me....

^ I can show you at least 3 cars with completely free gear w/o even thinking. They don't Drag though.
If I get my way my next car will not cost me a dime except install materials.
But anyway - it used to be that if you received gear below 'reasonable retail pricing' or ANY other form of incentive to compete you would be a 'pro'. Obviously that was and is so grey the rule should be erased.
It's kinda lame too. LBKC - I get the spirit of what you are saying with free gear but is it "fair" that some min wage h/s kid may flounder into say - your class? You don't seem a rich man but you appear to do okay for yourself and appear to make more than minimum wage and have some pretty sweet gear. Poor boy could cry foul that he can't afford to compete with you. Lame I know but if people are going to argue 'reasonable retail pricing' then it is the next possible step.
I totally agree on modified and limited crap but then companies skirt that one too. Was it Shocker that had a 'super woofer' in their lineup but 'supplies were limited' and somehow only their top competitors got them? Or how about when Shaker got his Power DVC woofers 3months before they hit the sales floors? Technically they are a retail woofer but at that time they were 'hard to get'.
Games games games. People suck.

see now, kinda the way i see it, if u are in mini street, long as u arent over the power limits, or running 2 15s, and your stuff wasnt free, so u dont care if u run the 400w amp at .25 ohm and fry it every run so that u can gain a power advantage then whatever, ill take on an installer, cus not every joe blow workin at a big retail store knows how to build a loud box, ive see $10k installs that look sweet, and i probly couldnt duplicated if i tried, get worked by alot less power.
not to say that there arent guys out there who know their stuff inside and out and could do 140s with 100w per sub,
as long as u stay within the rules, in mini street at least it doesnt matter, cus in my opinion mini is one of the best laid out classes, its incredibly fair for new competitors, and old competitors on a budget alike.
however, street classes, where theres no power limits, and alot more gray area i can see it being a problem, case in point visions show on the weekend, i show up, find out no mini street, know theres no way in hell i can compete with my system in street 1-2, end up borrowing a kicker amp from LBKC and risk turning my subs into paperweights, just to keep up,
saw other competitors leave after being bumped into higher classes for whatever reasons, cus they were 5-10db off the leader.
personally i think the classes kinda need to be reworked, to make it more competitive, and more inviting to new people, cus its becoming, the more money u have to spend on gear the more wins u will take home, at least in classes like street 1-2 where u have more then 4 competitors,
i dunno its not alot of help cus i dont have any kinda solutions or suggestions on how to make things better, or more fair, for a class like street 1-2
but i dont think u can call something sponsorship if someone gets a deal, in my eyes sponsorship is an agreement with a rep basically saying, ill give u this stuff for cost or whatever, but u have to agree to go to x amount of shows, have these stickers on your car, and talk about how great the gear is....
like ive gotten some SMOKIN deals, simply by shopping around, and letting salesmen know this guy at your competitor offered me the same thing for this much, can u match it or beat it? and then go back and talk to the other guy and see who will go lowest, doin that i got a pair of JL 6x9s a few years ago, regular 268$ i got em for 125$

seeeeeee now all this talk about fairness and
what not is partial to opinion.
cause i talked to an old friend of mine who figured i should run pro.
i stated the facts as so
about 8 years ago when i used to compete i was an installer by trade and the rules were governed by power class this made it extremely unfair to regular joe down the block.
alot of people were buying phoenix 2125 and zpa amps you know 25w by 2 till you put the 1 ohm load on.
now currently being a salesman i shined up my tools and put together another system which i paid for with my own money. 1 sub 1 amp 1 deck
simple system, ithanku.
anyway the point i am trying to make is what is the diff if an installer builds a box for himself
or he builds it for someone else, and what if its the same box in the same car wont it hit the same?!
however i do feel as though people who aquire
sponsorship and not have to pay for it and are built to win should be in there own cat.
as for lbkc the dude works harder than i do
for the money and out of all the people in this site that post i have the most respect for rob
beacuse he has worked the hardest and he deserves
the bragging right's not because he wins but because he has earned the priviledge.
now if everyone in this forrum worked as hard as him we may just make this sport as large as it used to be 8 years ago.
this is my opinion not solely directed at anyone
feedback is a must.

We think anything below retail or free is sponcered. But then again who cares if your going up against a sponcered vechicle or not. We did at finals last year and beat some of them. It is fusterating but it makes you work on your car alot harder to get louder.
