Making SPL competition popular again - Your Thoughts

this sports needs new, creative means of promotion to bring in the new blood. you can have shows with free entries but if no one knows it's taking place the turn out will still be crappy.

i remember when it was cool to be a paid db drag/iasca member, you felt you had a connection to the rest of the circuit. Even if your score was low, getting a membership made you feel as if it was the first step to getting loud. but now even the people doing good numbers dont even bother with a membership as it seems there is no point in having one - lack of competition, finals too far or too expensive, rules change every damn season, etc, etc.

what is needed for this sport to take off again is a set of like minded individuals in different key positions. we have those positions, unfortunately the individuals are not like minded.

what I'm talking about is people who put on and run the shows (like Bill, Erie, Don, Jason out East), people responsible for creating the formats (Db Drag, IASCA, etc), people who provide space and time for it all to happen (all the shops big or small), people who benefit one way or another from the exposure (manufacturers big or small) and finally the people who can put the word out there and get the messege out to the right people/sector (has to be targeted, cant just tell your grandparents or the Chinese store owner about it) like this very own website, CCA, or a magazine like PAS.

Until we have a common goal or purpose at all the levels this sport will never take off again.

My statistic to back up my theory is this - the best shows, at least on the East, happen when the majority of mentioned parties work together. And the floppiest shows happen when the least number of parties work together.

I understand that everyone is in it for their own benefit. I just can't believe that no one has been smart enough to develop a system which incorporates all the steps and benefits everyone. People will pay money as long as they are paying for something that's worth it.

why cant something be worked out with Db Drag/IASCA and PAS Mag where those orgs are promoted in the magazine at an affordable rate (not $10,000 for a page add) and in return a portion of a newly acquired db drag or iasca membership goes towards an annual subscription to PAS mag? See how that could work?

why can't CCA put on a show or two a season. nothing huge or expensive, I'm talking about spending/donating $100-$150 to do an event just to cover the basic fixed costs, promote it via its network of sites and have it take place at one of the site's sponsor stores? provide some nice, big CanadianCarAudio.com banners to be displayed at the show and get it's name out there beyond cyber space and acquire more loyal users.

even individual shops can contribute by having weekend test and tunes, or building competing demo vehicles to show what they've got.

everybody has connections, abilities and capabilities to make it work, who's gonna step up?

thoughts?

in western canada most of the shows are about an 11 hr drive for me to go to theres really only a few shows that are semi close for me to go to ill be going to a couple 2x events before finals both will 11 hr drives, in my area theres no real shops if I need any audio I have to order it in from the states , I have my own termlab and i was even thinking of doing freeee shows just to the scene in my area and get more competitors out to shows and actually have more then 3 competitors to a class , but it just seems like in certain areas of canada theres no real promotors alot of people dont even know what stereo competition is , I just think the companys need set somthing up were they go to certain areas and promote the sport through shows so we can get new competitors

a big box company like Futureshop or BestBuy needs to step up in areas like yours.

exactly but as we all know those companys are just in it for the money and really have nothing to do spl or any semi loud equipment , it would take a store that actually new somthing about spl and actually wanted to help customers out

What I think few people realize is that THIS SITE is essentially a "Club" ...
If more people spent time repping where we all chat and buy/sell/trade equipment, then you'd have more people coming to this spot to view ... then to post ... then to participate.

I think right now the problem is truly, not even the quantity or quality of shows, because last season I saw both. It's getting the word out to what I'd call the "General Public" ...

I'll just ask all the members, when's the last time you've referred someone to this site?
I agree with Yuli, 110%.

^^^^^^^ people like you are the problem. You show up to show and do not compete, probably because you dont think you will win or you think you will get laughed at if you put up a weak number.

This isnt the case tho. Last year at a number of shows people showed up to see what their system hits and then at the end of the day then end up being louder due to other people helping them and giving them advice.
