Making SPL competition popular again - Your Thoughts
I haven't been around this for that long, but it seems that a lot of people just don't know about shows and such. I've already begun trying to get some shops on the east side of Toronto to start hosting, hopefully bringing some new faces out to compete. Unfortunately I never attended things like Audio Thunder or any of those Future Shop shows, but it seems as if the interest died with those shows stopped. I can't say for sure, but the show that happened at the Best Buy in Kingston last year looked to have a really good turn out, so maybe finding a FS or BB that will host would be a great place to start creating interest again, but like Don said its a corporate thing, but if you ask the guys in the install bays they always seem to think it'd be a good idea, they just seem very, verrrrry pessimistic about the whole thing
Only a few (VERY few) die hard individuals will step up.
Problem with things like FutureShop, or almost any other shop doing anything to help is their attitude of "whats in it for me? ($$)"...
....realistically, how many sales will be generated by a show?...how many of you are going to buy something from Futureshop because of a show?
...even IF they carried anything worthwhile, you'd find it much cheaper on the internet.
answer is that there is nothing in it for them, why would they bother?.....

This is a good thread(thanks Yuli) and I wish to add my input and what has been done so far in planning for the upcoming year. Also before I begin I wish to say this. I am always willing to listen and evaluate everyone's suggestions on how to make shows more fun and meaningful again. So please dont hesitate to contact me at anytime.
1.As some of you might know Don from DB Drag and IASCA have joined forces this year for all of our shows. This means that everyone can attend both orgs at once..This saves time and money and it makes perfect business for both Don and I.
2. Both Don and I are actively looking for new sponsors on top of the ones we already have. This will help in keeping some cost down and more importantly get the 12volt retailers and companies back in the loop.
3. I have already committed to having a predetermined prize lot for all those who attend our shows this year...AKA...Flat screen.. The prize lot details will follow soon. But this was an idea that was brought to my attention and it makes sense....So I will introduce it this year.
4. The current schedule is up and if u notice I am trying to expand the boundaries for our shows. We have shows as far east as Montreal and as far west as Cambridge. I am still looking to add more shows yet.
5. Thanks to Larry from Sound Solution this years finals is going to happen indoors and outdoors. Having a indoors finals is a huge step as it takes Mother Nature out of the equation....Just look whats happening in Vancouver.
6. MOST IMPORTANTLY IS THIS: If u want to hold an event all I need is space and power...Don and I will take care of the rest. OR if u want to take on the reins and run your own show thats good to. Just call us and we can lead you in the right direction.
Lastly: I mentioned this earlier but I might start a couple of new classes this year for fun. All these classes were suggested to me by your peers and I considering them.
1. is a new SQ class where you have to run a stock deck. This will open the doors for people who want to compete but dont want to take out there stock decks which in todays cars are not so easy.
2.I am in the works of adding a new ALL IN TRUNK CLASS for IDBL, and a new SUBS UP FRONT CLASS(all subs must be ahead of the B-pillar). Again these classes are not set in stone but its something I working on.
Like I said my friends, I will always do my best to make this industry grow...

I have approached many F/S and B/B with no luck. They are a big corporation and if there is no money to be made then its a no go.
Also some properties do require INSURANCE Liability coverage. This will add cost. However Most do not. All u need to do is ask...but NEVER ASSUME there is no risk involved. AND NEVER withhold info from the property owner of exactly what your show entails. This could come back to haunt you..
Again most property owners will be excited to lend you or for a small fee a portion of there parking lot. Especially restaurants....it translates into more business for them.

^^^^^^^ people like you are the problem. You show up to show and do not compete, probably because you dont think you will win or you think you will get laughed at if you put up a weak number.
This isnt the case tho. Last year at a number of shows people showed up to see what their system hits and then at the end of the day then end up being louder due to other people helping them and giving them advice.

one of the first things we can do to help this "sport" is to stop telling other people involved that its people like them who are the problem.

people like him? probably people like me too then eh? ive been to alot of shows and and competed once... i even won an amp at one of dales shows without competing.. why? because i spent a bunch of money on the raffle tickets.. there are more ways to support and contribute than just putting up numbers. i think youre out of line by label him as the type of person who is the problem... as far as im concerned just going, meeting the guys, and having a good time is supporting the cause... if he didnt support it at all i dont think he would have been there in the first place... i dont think everyone with a system has to compete in order to "support the cause"

if you do have a stereo why not just compete for fun
there's no way i would go to a show with a functional system in my car and not compete... but that's just me.. I went to a show last year ONLY to deliver a broken sub so it could get repaired...Drove over a hour to get there. While i was there i ended up purchasing a sub (RE) (cause spectating suck's compared to competing) just so i could compete and in my first run i blew it up...Expensive day at the race's...lol
i am a first owner of a vehicle and a loud sound system
at lease i think 1200rms is loud for daily driver!
i wouldn't mind having small sound system competition or just Show's at future shop parking lots! but also... theses days it may encourage alot of thief =( people following other home to steal their gear have been! a problem lately
in Montreal it begin at the julep
sum follow us back home and try to break into my dad van broke the window and then got away in his car
