Preliminary Class Changes for 2004
Not for Publication
Not Finalized
January 5, 2004

The following is a list containing some of the proposed changes for the 2004 rules. This is NOT the final draft (as it will appear in the rule book). The rule book will be worded much more concisely. In addition illustrations and photos will be used to convey important points.

Street

1. Street A – 1-12, 2-10’s, 3-8’s / Maximum of 1 amp
2. Street B – 1-15, 2-12’s, 3-10’s, 4-8’s / Maximum of 2 amps
3. Street C – 1-18, 2-15’s, 4-12’s, 6-10’s, 8-8’s / Maximum of 4 amps

• No Walls
• SVC or DVC woofers only. (A maximum of 4 electrical conductors may be connected to each woofer.)
• Battery physical size limits
• Maximum voltage limits – 13 VDC car off – Tested in the lane
• Cosmetic modifications ARE allowed behind the rearmost seat. (Custom installs, replace carpet, replace panels, etc.,)
• Seats may not be removed (even if they are removable).
• Per Driver Power (or Total Power) Limit (TBD).

Street Pro (Replaces Last Year’s Super Street 1-2 NW)

4. Street Pro A – 1-15, 2-12’s, 3-10’s, 4-8’s
5. Street Pro B – 1-18, 2-15’s, 4-12’s, 6-10’s, 8-8’s

• No Walls
• No Floor cut-throughs
• Multi-coil woofers allowed (A maximum of 4 electrical conductors may be connected to each woofer.)
• Maximum of 5000 Watts Per Driver (dBDRA Certified Power Rating initially. CEA rating at a later date.)

Super Street

6. Super Street 1
7. Super Street 2
8. Super Street 3-4
9. Super Street 5+

• Multi-coil woofers allowed (A maximum of 4 electrical conductors may be connected to each woofer.)
• Maximum of 8000 Watts Per Driver (dBDRA Certified Power Rating initially. CEA rating at a later date.)

Extreme

10. Extreme 1
11. Extreme 2
12. Extreme 3-4
13. Extreme 5+
14. Monster - No limits on vehicle modifications or equipment – No qualifications required for World Finals. Invitational Only. Class record only. Not eligible for Extreme Cup or prize money.

SPECIAL NOTE WITH REGARDS TO EXTREME INTERIORS: In the past, the rule book told competitors what they could NOT do. Competitors assumed that if something wasn't in the rule book, it must be okay. This year, competitors will be told what they MUST do and what they MAY do. If it isn't specified in the rule book, then it isn't permitted.

• Multi-coil woofers allowed (A maximum of 4 electrical conductors may be connected to each woofer.)
• No seats allowed
• Nothing in front of the speakers (no loading walls)

Extreme Custom Dashboard Requirements

• Each vehicle MUST have a dash.
• The highest point of the dash may not extend above the horizontal plane defined by the bottom of the windshield.
• The lowest point of the dash may not be located any lower than 3 inches below the horizontal plane defined by the bottom of the windshield.
• The dash shall extend from the windshield pillar on the driver’s side to the windshield pillar on the passenger side.
• The minimum depth of the dash shall be 6 inches (measured in the center of the dash). The maximum depth of the dash shall be 12 inches (measured in the center of the dash).
• The plane of the dash must be flat with respect to the ground at all locations within 12 inches distance from the sensor.
• The trailing edge of the dash (facing the passenger compartment) must be straight from one side of the vehicle to the other. (Viewed from the top.)
• The relationship between the dash and the windshield shall be such that the sensor can be placed on the windshield and the proper distances from the sensor to the dash (4 inches) and the sensor to the windshield pillar (12 inches) can be achieved.
• Holes and notches are not permitted in the dash.

Extreme Center Console Limitations

• Each vehicle MAY have a center console.
• The maximum width of the center console is 18 inches (looking down).
• The center console may not exceed the height of the lowest part of the dash.
• The center console must be centered in the vehicle and must be symmetrical when viewed from the top.
• If the center console interferes with the “string test”, then that portion of the center console shall be easily removable for officiating purposes.

Extreme Roof Build-Down Limitations

• Competitors MAY construct a roof build-down if desired.
• The build-down may not extend below the top of the door jamb. The string test will be used to determine compliance.

Extreme Door Build-Out Limitations

• Competitors MAY build-out their door panels if desired.
• The maximum distance the build-out may extend into the passenger compartment is 4 inches. (Measured from the location of the original door panel.)

Extreme Passenger Compartment Requirements

• A minimum vertical separation of 3 feet (36 inches) MUST be provided between the headliner (or roof build-down) and the floor (or floor build-up) at ALL locations within the passenger compartment except over the center console and the dash.
• A 36-inch rod will be used to determine compliance. The judge will hold the rod vertically and move it around inside of the passenger compartment. If the rod’s movement is impeded in any way, then the vehicle fails compliance with this rule. (The "2-Adult Rule", "Traditional Seating Arrangement", etc. are all being scrapped.)

Extreme Windshield Limitations

• The maximum windshield thickness is 4 inches.
• A uniform thickness must be used for all windshield panels.
• If the windshield is panelized, only vertical separations may be used.

Glad to see that SOMETHING is out, even if they're just preliminary.

I like the new classes. A few of the other rules I'm not too crazy about but can live with.

I'm not too sure I like the possible new Street classes...going by that, unless the max wattage is considerably low, people like me will get their asses handed to them.I sort of hope that they stick with the same basic rules as 2003.But as a contridiction to this,I can see alot more new guys coming out with a set up like that as well..So basiclly I can see good and bad things in this potional outline...

Just my 2 pesos..

If anything they will be limiting the power in street, meaning less power, meaning you'd have a better chance, not worse...

I think its awesome except the 13v thing I love the new class stuctures, and with the CEA 2006 ratings coming into effect eventually, probably won't see too many 4kw that do 8000watts for a burst, i guess we will see. i think it will be changed to 14v though.

Street A- the class i've already built for but didn't know it was going to be offered wicked,

Time to get loud

Yeah I think the 13v was an oversight and will be changed to 14.

Cool

I like it!! low power, true street systems!!the permitted (you shall) wording of the rules will remove grey areas, i knew being a smarta$$ would receive positive results .there will be complaints about the new rules(as always)but i see them as a good start, with real consideration for newbies!!
