Soundigital tests continued
ok so i got my hands on one of these amps to test this weekend. we compared it to the stetsom 7kd in both ss on 16 volts and street on a single 12 volt batt. got pretty much the exact same results as don did on 16 volts and 0.5 ohm. so seems to be consistent test results out here.
first we cracked into the case to check things out. first thing we noticed that was not impressive was the stacked up nuts to make the power and ground connections to the board. the rest of the board looked good but very simple and small in size. here are a few pics of the amp for those who have not seen.

im having some issues uploading videos to my friends photobucket but have a few vids to share.
first test was on 16 volts and 0.5 ohm load. same test dbdon has done with this amp. we got the same results as his testing besides the pushed to the limits power he told me about. we could only manage max of 12,961 watts from this amp before protection. granted that is big power the amp making from 11,000 to 13,000 watts the score did not change. infact it hit the exact same spl as the stetsom amp making 10,000 watts, which is what don found too.
clamped power and voltage drop results on the sd8000 = 130.1 ac volts, 85.3 ac amps, voltage drop to 15.20 so 11,098 watts of power. then up more managed 148.3 ac volts, 87.4 ac amps, and drop to 15.08 volts so 12,961 watts.

as i said we also tested this map in a street b car with single 12 volt. again stetsom vs sound digital. first burp was done using the stetsom amplifier recorded a score of 146.7 dbs. we then test sound digital amp after tweeking for best performance. recorded a score od 146.0 dbs. so we lost 0.7 dbs in street setup yet the sound digital did make more power once again over the stetsom amp. have videos of these tests but problems uploading them to both photobucket and youtube.
we made a list of pros and cons for the sound digital amp they follow. and im sure anyone who has tested this amp can agree.
pros:
small in size
big power
cons:
lots of system noise (2x that of the stetsom)
power and speaker connections to small for proper size wire
seemed less efficient then the stetsom amp
dirty power
after a burp once amp was turned off it radiated a bad smell
price is alot more then the stetsom amp
the nut connections to the board
and a few cosmetic cons was the logo on the amp was just a decal, and the case of the amp had a few noticeable scratches on the profile from production that were just painted over top of, and the painted letters near the leds were very blurred.
if anyone else tests this amp please post your results to compare. i know after talking with dbdon we are on the same page with everything i have stated here.

Nice test Aaron. Have numbers in the power in street test?
About the SPL, there is no reason for lower output if you got more power... probably with a little more tuning you would pass the score of the other amplifier.
I hope soon you have in Canada the last version of SD8000, with a bit more juice.

Ya the recommendations I submitted were basically the same with the addition that the voltage rail voltage was limited.
I went over a few other designs and the distortion could be somewhat fixed by increasing the min gain input voltage to 9-12 volt instead of 6 volt. Most good CD players/line drivers do 5-9 volt.
The bolts inside for power and ground were probably one of the contributing factors to losing by .7 in the street vehicle by limiting the current draw and causing heat build up at that point. Those bolts look to pretty much bottle neck the performance on that amp that was sent.
There were other things too but i was told were changed already on the new design.
Waiting to see if SD makes the product/price changes that were recommended to make it more competitive in the market and work with the people that will ultimately use and sell it.

so you are telling me my vehicle is peaked out, doesnt gain with power? i dont think thats the case at all seeing as i have done much better #s then that with more power added. i think it needs good power to get louder not clipped to hell power. like i said from 11-13,000 watts it hit the same # due to the quality of power. the amp obviously was peaked out not the install. and for the street loss in spl you are saying team riprock needs lessons on tuning a enclosure?
ok first the stetsom
the movie
now the sd8000
