Whats wrong with my stereo??

Hey guys, I have been having some problems with the system at the end of last year and so far this year and it was just confirmed the other day. i have a 2002 Jetta for starters.

what i have....

Pioneer P6600-dvd deck
Kicker 0/1 guage wiring kit
optima yellow top
JL 13W7 in ported box (don't know the tune! yikes!)
JL 1000/1 amp

Last year i hit 140.7 on term lab and 145.9 on mic (WITHOUT the bigger wiring or battery). On saturday i hit 134.4 on term lab WITH the new stuff. on sat he said i was hitting my best at around 47hz, but i have no clue what my box is tuned to.

towards the end of the season i noticed it getting very quiet and not hitting nearly as hard as it once did. this year is the same - it just FALLS flat on its face at higher volume and will NOT get louder what i do. I will put it at where i usually listen to daily max and i will change the subwoofer on the deck or even turn up the gain and it does not want to get louder. I think it might be my alternator as it's stock 90 amp. i am buying a 120amp and getting it re-wound and doing the big 3 at that time.

do you think it;s the alternator just not getting it juice??? it worked part of last season and now it;s not good. also the amp gets SUPER hot after going on a cruise. any ideas?!?

Start with the basics, check ALL of the connections (+ & -) for tightness and possible corrosion, both the charging system and the audio system. If all passes, then start with component replacement, process of elimination.

All I can suggest for now...

Check for voltage drop at the battery when under load. Ensure that the ground return is as low a resistance as possible. I would think that you have a huge voltage sag happening.
