WOW!!! please tell me what the heck 12" sub you were using, to stuff 3K watts into, and what kind of amp. That is unbelivably incredible power. there are only a few amps that can dish out that amount of power.. JBL Crown 6000, Visonik 4000D's Im assuming? is that what you guys used? how do you guys manage to stuff that much power into a littler 12'er anyway? at what frquency and for how long? That BLOWS MY MIND.... like WOW, the only 12" sub I know that can take that is that Ground Zero Nuclear 12" thats 3k Rms, but Im positive that isn't what you guys used, so what gives?

ok ground zero doesnt come close.

I used Digital Design 9512's and Livin Loud used same ones as well as 9912 series. we used Earthquake D3 amps at 0.25 ohm loads that makes for slightly over 3000 watts. Using one amp per sub. for how long they can tek it? i dont really know. me and him used the subs the whole season giving them abou 3 second burps. but as u might know with all the testing factored in our subs probably see thousands of burps by the end of the season.

Here are some amps that can produce good power besides the ones u mentioned. Zapco 9.0, RF T3000, Earthquake D5, Zapco 4kw, the new US Amps, Jbl 2200, Spl dynamics ext 3000, American bass 200.1, E audio 3000d all these amps are in the range of 3000rms if u know what u are doing. and btw on a 12v set up the visonik one only makes 2400 watts.

and the list of subs that can take all that power is probably twice as long, some include digital design, RE, TRF, shocker, beyond audio, even kicker L7's can take a good beating, Treo, American bass, Automic and there is more, all 12's and evne 10's.

making a sub that can take power is not that hard of a task, put a big heavy 4 inch coils on it with 4 or more spiders and u are done realy. the challange is to make a sub that is efficient and yet it can handle some good power.

The MTX RFL was strickly engineered at the time to push SPL limits. It was never intended to be used for average SPL'ers either.

It was developed to have the ability to replace cones within the given time between rounds at shows.

Unfortunatly it is the most misunderstood woofer. It also seems as though some of you are quite confused on what it is capable of.

The RFL cannot play music. It is not that is sounds bad. It was not designed too
The suspension is extremely tight, if anyone has actually touched one they will agree. Now everyone knows that a woofer cools by cone movement, Because the design of the woofer limits cone movement the coil will heat up and burn. Also the suspension cannot react quick enough for musical passages.

The RFL is still the one woofer I get the most silly inquiries about.

Im glad it is retired, because unfortunatly when the end user who doesnt understand the RFL blows it up. It is always MTX who is the problem and not the USER

so basically the sub sucks. from what is said here it wasnt even worth it b/c it would die pretty fast and u would have to swap the cones and coils in between the runs. considering it was not as loud as some other spl woofers i'd have to say this sub was a hit and miss on MTX's part.

^ No, it doesnt suck, just misunderstood.

I am not sure if you understood my explanation. I am not sure it can be explained any different.

i would have to say that you can't read very well if that is what you got from the previous post. what he is saying is that the woofer is meant for serious spl people and when your serious you are usually pushing the limits and woofers don't make it past more then a few rounds and you want to be able to fix them quick. and by serious I would mean in the 170+ range, not the 153 range.

Wait wait wait... lemme get this straight.

The sub isn't loud.
The sub blows up every run.
You have to buy more parts and replace them every round.

Maybe I got confused, but what part of that doesn't spell SUCK?

THANK YOU!!!!!! ^^^^^

when your serious you are usually pushing the limits and woofers don't make it past more then a few rounds
i beg to differ my friend. i dont know what subs u are using or how seriouse u are about spl and how often u break the 170 mark but if a sub doesnt last past a few rounds no one will use it. maybe thats why they dropped the RFL's???? A cerwin vega stroker subs lasted countless rounds in the 170+ enviroments and those subs are what now???? 7 years old? maybe more? and an RFL cant last a few rounds? and it doesnt suck?

all i see being mentioned here is that the sub was supposed be very good at performing two things: producing high spl and blow up pretty quick and be fixable on the spot. since it didnt really produce too many seriouse spl scores (170+) i guess it was only good at blowing up every few rounds..............???
