I really don't see MTX trynign to copy anyone in particular. With the MTX9500 they were obviously trying to compete with the W7 market share so why not give it a designation with a 7 in the model number. Bottom line is it's a great sounding/performing driver with a price tag a bit more reasonable than the W7. Sounds alot better than the DD 9500's also.

The RFL get the job done with their intended purpose also. They just need the correct situation as stated (they are meant for big power applications). Put it against a DD 9500 with only a 3000rms amp and yes the DD will win.
Double the power and then things can get interesting.

On the topic of copying, the first sub I remember with a massive surround was an Earthquake back around '98-99 I believe.
Now everyone puts a big surround on the driver whether it needs it or not.

at 300lbs I would hate to have to test different boxes for that thing, it would take a team to get it in and out.

they're just copying ID with the tall, skinny surround.

I agree with Dereck, good design is good design.

really, they're all copying Alexander Grahm Bell, since he pioneered speaker technology as we know it. Everyone needs to find another way to reproduce sound, a coil moving in a magnetic field has SOO been done.

well then every sub is a good sub

i didnt say it was a bad design, i dont know where that came into the picutre. all im saying is it says alot about mtx's creativity, engineering and general research and development. lately all of those have been in decline.

sure u can 'adopt' a good design, but if that happened in the automotive industry then all the cars would have same engines and every car would be an suv b/c thats the best overall best vehicle design from any aspect.

what im saying is that i would rather see a company like mtx come out with new stuff, u know set an industry standart and lead by example rather than 'adopting' a good technology. Even Bazooka came up with their stupid liquid cooled garbage. MTx can do alot better than its recent attempts.

Yuli you have to be an ignorant fool about this industry.

You want to talk inovation? how about JL and there 6 yr old Amp technology. Unfortunatly you dont have the technical ability to even understand what makes a good product.

maybe you should phone MTX and lend them some of your insight.

I happen to have a chance to attend CES this year and MTX was steps ahead of any competitor this year. Not one booth is all of car audio floor had even half the traffic MTX did. That my friend was a fact! like it or not

WOW, somebody is on the 'rag'. holy spite batman.

Guys, I've been meaning to ask this for a while, so now is just as good of a time as any. Since this is in the SPL section, I'll ask here, but why dont more people use those Servo drive subwoofers? With a very beefy, long-throw surround, you can move incredible amounts of air. Step response isn't even an english term to any SPL GURU, so with that in mind... What gives? I've heard of of this homeaudio subwoofer made by (Velodyne was it?) where as it was two 15"s, which could take 2500 RMS as the pair. I know thats little to you SPL nuts, YOU guys are NUTS, holy 5K RMS into a 10" sub... WOW, but anyway that servo drive Velodyne reportedly moved as much air as 8 other average homeaudio subwoofer 15"s. So why dont you guys adapt those numbers for the SPL world? I'm assuming they cant take a beating like the normal conventional VC subs, but it sure is a great idea in my mind. Phoenix made a Servo sub called the "Cyclone" I dont know if its discontinued,.... but whaddaya think?
