The only drawback to the 3way sets is the extra installation hassle....I would also wonder how having your mid-range driver at a 90degree angle to your other speakers would affect the SQ for a couple different reasons.

If you spend $400 + taxes for 2way comps there are lots to choose from. The best way to choose is take a CD you know really well and start auditioning...since you will be spending a lot of time listening to them you need to find a set that sounds good to your ears. There are fans of every brand under the sun, I like my Focals and the JLs I had before them.

All component sets come with passive cross-overs that are matched to the drivers....tuning, or setting the relative levels and bandwidth of individual drivers, only comes into play if you are running each driver off a separate amp channel with an active cross-over network....again more complex with a 3 way set...

Well, less the tweets on the door pillars is the way it comes from factory...I like the general "sound" of it, I just want it to be louder, clearer, more powerful. A 3 way component set is a way to get 3 speakers from the front 2 channels of the amp....isn't it?

Thanks, I haven't had a pile of time to go audition....which would really be foolish not to do when it comes to speakers. The thing is I have no clue where to go? Edmonton area, there has to be something better than Future Shop?

So...if I was to get a 3 way component set like those above, the install would be relatively simple? Much like a 2 way with the addition of the dash speakers, as the crossover has 1 input and 3 outputs?

^ Install is as you described - crossover has one (sometimes more) input and an output for each speaker.

Future Shop does not have 3way sets so you're out of luck there. It's been a very long time since I was up to speed on my Edmonton shops but JB's used to be decent and also that place on 101st about 2 blocks north of the underpass that used to be Factory Sound back in the day. If you ever get east of Edmonton, Sound Obsessions in Lloyd is a good shop.

JL makes a decent sounding set. Hertz probably has something in your price range too, but maybe not in a 3way..

Having the 3 1/2" in the factory location with the tweet flush mounted on the top of the factory grill would work fairly well IMO. Everything vocal would be in close proximity and loading the same way off the front windshield. How much distance between the dash speaker and the sail panels, where you were thinking about mounting the tweet?

Dash speakers are essentially against the window, door speakers (6X9) are fairly low in the door, tweets would go on the pillar.

I propose to do so, anyways.

It could be neat (and perform well) to build some pods to house the two smaller speakers where the factory 3 1/2" is now. U could get them aimed right where u wanted and where they sounded good. Depends how much work u wanted to do.

I don't mind doing work, the thing is I'd like to stay as factory looking as possible. Here's what there is for room under the front grille:

I think I will go with a three way set. I will see what I can do but I don't think there's a lot of room to point the 3.5"s under the grills, they may just have to point at the windshield.

I'm gonna experiment with the tweets though.

It will be fine. Experiment with the tweeter on the 'mirror triangle' on the door panel and also on the A-pillar near-ish the mid.

You will not need a loc if you use a pdx5 as you can hi level directly into RCA inputs, the Pdx amps work very well and the 5th sub channel is very conservatively rated, as for the having to buy manufacturers cheap woofers, that incorrect, there are plenty of woofers that will work fine with 400 or so what's the pdx5 provides
