That is very true, just because you think you hear something doesn't mean you did. But the opposite can also be true, just because your particular ears can't hear something someone else can, doesn't mean it isn't there.
I understand the comments about purchasing an expensive piece and convincing myself that it sounds better, but the main thing that stood out was this guitar chord not the whole song. How can that be a self induced experience?
Anyway, I still contend that not everybody has the same hearing, whether it be training, sensitivity or just natural talent. It's easily quantified that some have better eyesight, this is not that different.

you guys are missing the point. It's not about hearing a difference, it's about what difference does the component make? Anyone can stick an eq in the signal chain and create a different sound profile that's easily discerned. The question is, do the components mentioned, 24 bit DAC's or Amplifiers, create a difference in the sound that can be detected by human hearing reliably? The only way to determine this is to remove any other variables, such as the level differences, equalization, phase issues, etc... that are not part of the component's nature, and then try to hear a difference...CONSISTENTLY! Anyone can claim they hear a difference....proving it seems to be the problem.
But back to the subject at hand, it seems the gains made in SQ using a 24 dac vs 1 bit regulated are not really jaw dropping although still an improvement. The new Alpine unit may be employing theirs at least partly for such features such as IMPRINT and MULTEQ, which is probably what others are doing with their 24 bit models as well.
This is pointless, yea, you can hear a difference.....no you can't...yes you can...no...
Whatever, if you can't hear a difference I feel sorry for you, you don't know what you're missing.
Levels matched or not, eq or not.....who cares? what person changes out thier deck and level matches it to thier previous deck? Not me. out with the old, in with the new and tune, I could give a about level matching, lets talk real world, not RC's world.
Haunz, if your little dream system does in fact exist, you should give it to me since youre not getting anything out of it, I'll give you my home system in return.....it consists of an RCA 5 disc changer/reciever and some crappy Fischer speakers, according to you it won't sound any different....oh and it's 1 bit BTW.
As for my "pathetic" system that consists of some of the best equipment in the world, I like it, so you can **** off, I doubt highly you have the brain capacity to decipher what sounds good and what doesn't, like I said, you rely on computer printouts and heresay to decide what's good and whats not. Numbers don't mean , your ear is the only oppinion that matters.

It's like the old saying goes......"arguing on the internet is like the special olympics......even if you win, you're still retarded."

.. 24 bit , I can just imagine .. Next deck HAS to have it lol...
