sail panels are no go, they are tiny.

i would love to have pillars, but then im looking at blind spots, security, more money.

i am still considering it though, i know its ideal but i'll be honest, im not adept at installs like that and am going to have it installed. and thats alot more money for pillars.

I wouldn't worry about the blind spots. The speaker is small enough that it won't be a hazard.

It's not that hard to build a decent set of pillars. If you need a hand with it, I will give you a hand. Providing you provide all the materials and can drive to my place in Cambridge.

well the install is done, and all that is left is some serious tuning!

final install consists of hybrids L3SE's and Hertz's ML28 mounted on-axis in the apillars.

immediate impression of the sound is great. soundstage does not drop into my doors anymore as frequency declines.
much more indepth, time consuming tuning required now though.

after a couple minutes of fiddling it looks like i am going to be crossing as such.
Sub R: 20-63hz (ID Max)
Sub L: 0-160hz (Bass Shaker)
Low: 63-250hz (ML165)
Mid: 250-10,000hz (L3SE)
High: 10,000hz+ (ML28)

still fiddling with slopes and haven't even looked at time alignment yet.

i'll try and post pics once the weather is nicer.

thanks for the input everyone!

please! throw any suggestions my way.

i have listened to the l3se's without the tweeter, and i do not like it.
they can do it, but heavy eq'ing will be needed.

even with heavy eq'ing i prefer the really high end sound of the ml28's over the l3se's.

its going to be a little more complex figuring out appropriate slopes and level matching with the three way, but thats fine with me.

what i listed above was just after fiddling for a few minutes.

That's funny cause those who have heard the L4SE's in the FIT agree that the don't need a tweeter at all. You must love your highend frequencies.

Start with all 24dbs and go from there. I can help you with T/A and sub bass transition with the P99. just cant do it here - need to have my ears in the car

like i said, they can do it, i just personally prefer the high end offered by the ml28's.

any opinion on a track with a solid center stage?

i've been using "the boy who stole the blues" from the focal discs up until now, but wouldn't mind a new track.

If you have an RTA use it to match the left and right side. If not make a disc with tones and do your best to level your car by ear. Don't use music, it's dynamic and is much more difficult to use at the beginning stages. You need to star with a balanced system.
Do this with out T/A.
I find crossover settings should be set to maximize speaker protection for daily drivers. Keep your mids in a safe area on the bottom end(350Hz should be ok). Different crossover slopes will introduce different phases. To start, use the same slope, but I would suggest trying different slopes between your mids and highs, just to see what happens.
Get the basics done first. Tunning is tricky and needs real time and effort. Let us know when you're at that level and we will go from there.
The IASCA judges training for Ontario is coming up in a few months. I would suggest checking that out. Ther will be lots of people there to help you out, myself included.

by same slope, do you mean if i'm using a 24db on on one end, use a 24 on the other?

does this apply to all preouts, or simply on the affected preout?

would it do well to have a much steeper HPF than LPF?

for example, the transition between door woofers and midrange.

a shallow upper slope for the woofer so it isn't such a quick transition between the two, and a much steeper bottom slope on the mid to protect the mid and allow it to play slightly lower.
woofer @ 18db HPF
mid @ 36db LPF
