Alpine 1k system
definition?
He won his class.. Obviously he built for his class, which is something missed by ALOT of people.
No one is saying that you can do a advanced class, or even basic pro class in a couple days.. But the lower consumer level novice/1st year classes where theres no creativity or craftsmanship points it could be possible.

i'll make it a bit clearer for you, a clear defenition of competitive is what i meant, actually that exactly what i said, so im not too sure where your cunfusion is
i still dont think that you can build a car to win, lets say the usac regionals in august, in 2 days, maybe top 5. those who think they can do it, cool, in all honesty, i'd like to see it, i'd like to be proven wrong. in the basic novice classes where there isnt all the points for install(although james' car likely won because of his wiring and it took him days to wire his car so ther is something to install in basic), its even more important that your car sound good, which is where time testing speaker locations is critical and that can take alot of time, and using great gear helps of course, but it cant make up for only 16 or 24 hours of time. i wanted to see how everyone whould break up their 3 days and only 1 person replied, how bout you chev, dwvw, sux(not sure if you install or dukk does it) how would you guys use your 24 hours, all in fun here, im interseted

It also depends on what organization you are building for and if you have to wait for any supplies to be delivered.
In IASCA I don't think the wiring rules are quite so . Let's face it, I wouldn't be surprised if USACi required kryptonite covering all wiring and terminations, just in case Superman tried to pull on the wiring!
Anyways:
Day 1
2 hours R+R interior
4 hours run wiring
2 hours sound deaden
Day 2
1/2 hour mount deck
2 hours modify Q forms and mount speakers
1 hour mount sub into prebuilt box and fasten box to car
1 1/2 hours mount amp and eq
10 minutes set gains
rest of day play with eq
Day 3
Mountain Crest (for Dave!)

I do the install work on my vehicles now that I have some tools and knowledge under my belt. But I'm still wicked slow so honestly I can't really say how I could do a winning system in 24 hours. Although I haven't been one of the persons reporting that I could.

Hoo-boy - this post kind of took off...
I said it could be done for a thousand dollars US. My breakdown for that:
Kickpanels $300
Sub box and Amp rack $400
Wiring: $100
Balance of labour: $200
Two days of fabrication and one day spent aiming KPs and tuning. A system at this level would not have an outboard EQ or crossover so tuning would only take so long...
I guess the perspective is just different. A month back I dropped two amps, 4 coaxials, a deck, and a Thunderform in a truck in 3 hours. 2 weeks ago I spent 4 hours just making a subbox for a different truck so like I say - it depends on the car.

^^ that's because the VEEMAN knows what people want to discuss.
Anyway, I'm sure the Alpine system sounds great, but I don't think it has enough subs or juice(kind of sounds like lunch) to keep me happy for too long.
