I think what Dukk means is that people will resort to making it easier to overcome the challenges of making a good soundstage in a car by changing the aspects of the listener orientation to the transducers as opposed to using applied science, install techniques, and tuning to have a truly great install in a car that has both seats.
If that is in fact what he is saying, I do see the value in that statement. There are those who will opt to do a single seat, and those who will not, but is it not fun to share the enjoyment with someone once in a while. I think there is also some self gratification with getting a really great sound from both seats instead of just one. It's about overcoming the acoustical environment that a car gives you in such a way that the car doesn't become or look like an amusement ride at the fair.
I do also understand the single seat thing too. If it is truly about getting the absolute best you can get in any single seat location, obviously a single seater would be optimal and defro's point would be correct.
As for me, I am a two seat SQ fan myself, but then again, I just love a great sound whenever I am exposed to it.

I have yet to hear a car that sounded awesome from both seats, that had realistic seating positions. At least not from cars without a center channel.
Single seat cars make sense for most people. All of my cars upto this point have been driver side biased. But this year will be a little different.
I also had a chance to hear the Be's in two different cars. Both had a lot of time put in to their installs. They did sound good, but for the money, I'll stick to my Scan Speaks.

Agreed I did talk about install ( busted ) but I also talked about using the right driver for the right application.
James thanks for the plug, I think you have done the single best job with ext drivers I have yet to see. The work you put into your car to make everything sound there best astounded me.

What features are inherent to the current HU if I were to simply hook it up to a D/A?

i wasnt going anywhere specific but f#1 topics usually can get interesting and its been a bit lackluster around here as of late. i have sold f#1 for 4 years and have very strong opinions about it and it always seems that those who say there isnt value in it are those you have never used or in alot of cases ever even seen 1 which i always get a kick out of. as for the p9, its good but a volkswagon in a sea of porches when compared to the pxah900.
