alpine f#1 status
I used the base model Alpine DVD player for my transport, the H701 and a bunch of really affordable (and very old) speaker and I still took home a first place at the IASCA finals. Install it right and it will sound good.
This all makes me want to dig out the old Nakamichi TD1200. Sound quality of that tape deck was incredible. Just one problem. No source. If I had a Nakamichi Dragon to make my own tapes, I'd do it. I still have a box of TDK metal housing blank tapes. I like my F#1 Status setup. How did Spock say it? After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing, after all, as wanting.

you dont need f#1 to win, that goes without saying. there are obvious reasons why biggs doesnt use f#1, but what is interesting is that when they(eldridge and biggs)got to build a no holds barred money no object system, phil's benz, that they chose f#1 source and processors, no audio control, no jbl driverack, no behringer, f#1 for all of the d/a conversion, source, eq, crossover, all very important things in the overall way a vehicle can sound
the funny thing about people who say f#1 is overpriced, not worth it are typically people that have never used it, that is an interesting point. i stand behing my statement that 99.9% percent of all systems could be made better with the proper use of the pxah900, of course there are exceptions, and there always will be, the .1 percent already have f#1

Perhaps maybe a better understanding about the F#1 would justify the prices.
The F#1 7990:
-Power supply... DC to DC converter 15V+/- outboard (that means the opamps are insured to have good power for headroom & low noise operation),
-Ladder resister/electronic control volume, ( means lt/rt channel tracks precisely at any level setting) unlike volume pots, base on dual pot & the electronic volume control chip).
-BurrBrown K grade DAC chip..... 1704 K vs 1704 is 6db in noise improvement. (means better low level detail and wider dynamic range)
-Output pigtail rca with OCC copper designed by Monster Cable ( that means the signal is not lost through an interface. and there's much more.........
It is actually a bargain!...... once you understand the attention to detail that was put into it.

Defro you aren't going to sway any minds that aren't in agreement with you on this topic. (not saying you're wrong about the units) not in any of the F#1 vs the world threads... Can we just agree to disagree.

I got an all-active system and I would love to use the H900. I'd love an H700/701 too. Do I think I can achieve audibly better results from the 700 to the 900? That I'm not too sure of. I'd have to compare to know I guess. Do I think I can achieve better results with either piece than the equipment I have now? I think so. Why? Because my early-90s Alpine 3656 electronic 4-way xover only has 12 dB slopes. It's got the flexibility xover points I desire but not the slopes. Having T/A to play around with would be nice but that's just a bonus feature. And controlling it from the drivers seat would be nice too. Again, just convenience. I would like steeper slopes though. My 3401 parametric EQ is great though. I don't really feel I'm lacking anything with that unit but of course, the more bands the better....just in case
