A Debate on the many different aspects of sound

The biggest reason for porting doors is to extend the useable frequencies of the mid you are using. Using the port tuning frequency to extend past the useable output of the speaker
One of the best cars I have ever heard for midbass/ up front bass was SUX2BU's Avenger. We used to turn the 12 in the back off and just listn to the midbass in the doors. The xover point would move around a bit between daily driver and SQ comps but was generally in the 45hz range high pass. And yeah, they were IB in the door.
His truck with the B&W 7s in the KPs plays very low as well.
After experiencing these two vehicles I just cannot see what gain there would be from trying to extend the response of the midbass. Especially if a sub is in the car.
I'm open mined though (contrary to popular belief) so I will experiment with this in my car when I get to that point.

Is this not the biggest reason people say to run woofers IB or at least sealed? To get the lowest response from the speaker?

defro,
Ya I thought the fuses in the rear window was a great idea, to bad they used it against you for theft, it stuff like that that dings you.
However I thought the car was over processed, I even tried to show you what I meant; we agreed it was different references. Your car however sounded wonderful and I was impressed with what you did with it.(workmanship was really good I know why you guys get repeat customers now)
However please try a lesser reference and look for the sound of the person blowing across the flute (USACI track) I heard it in every car but yours. If I were judging it would have been one point I would have noticed.
I hear you got yourself some F1 speakers, now that will truly be a treat to hear…
Your wife finalize what she’s using yet, can’t wait to see a woman eat up the competition.

I have the ability to generate T/S parameters for raw drivers. (forementioned LMS/LEAP combo) But, I have found very large conflicts between what is NOT supposed to work in a car, and what HAS worked.
I'm really begining to believe in trial and error to a degree that makes me nervous.
Back to trying...

The best up front bass I ever built was with a pair of 8W-1's sealed in the doors of a Grand Prix.
Took a while to build, but totally worth it.

to defend daves design on porting the doors well this was done by mike mineo way back in the early 90s in his camaro. having seen this car, and seen daves car, and both of these cars do very very well on the sq circuit.......... this is a strong statement to the design philosophy, but it has to be a properly built door with "it" being influenced by the speaker paramaters. the easy way to do midbass is hole, dynamat, screw, but a very qualifed tech ie. dave, will find the best way, even if its not the easiest way, to do something, so i have to belive that daves system is the best way to do "his" application.
