equipment race - get out out it
#21
Chineman - I'm not online much as I'm very busy with kankar
I never said I sell the best equipment, nor I said not to buy it. I just say for people to start with good, hgier end gear and work with it.
My new motto is: Let your equipment work for you
some very expensive drivers need certain install issues (large air volume) and won't work well in small kicks ... so there is no use to do so.
I hope I'm not understood

In toronto, Audio One on steeles will let U listen as long as you want, they do a lot of home theatre and stuff, a buddy and I went in there and watched "the fifth element" one time, the whole thing, straight through, (on leather recliners) and nobody asked us if we were interested in buying anything.

Yes, I know the prices can go much higher; however, the price ranges I have listed are to provide a relative comparison between home and car audio. All things being equal, hifi for car is much more affordable than hifi for a home.

Sometimes, you get less, sometimes more. If you pay 100 bucks for a set of speakers, don't expect $1000 worth of sound.
If you pay $600 for an amp that's rated 1000WRMS and it actually makes 1400, you got a good deal.
The best thing that ever happened to me was when someone posted Solen's website. You can pay WAY too much for Alpine F#1 Status speakers, or you can buy the same drivers off Solen for 500 bucks at the most, Although you don't get that WICKED crossover with them I have seen the F#1 2 way set BTW up close and personal...yes, it is exactly a Scanspeak set with the Alpine name on it and the nice X-Over.
In concluding, I don't think buying high-end equipment is neccessary unless your install deserves something better. Best advice I ever heard anyone give about car audio was "go with what your ears like best, not what someone else says is the best"

Time for me to weigh in on this issue.
To quote Dukk:
"I have to agree. Spend most of your money on cables and the rest on amps and you will be fine "
You amuse me!!! (yes I know you are being sarcastic, and I agree with you)
My experience to date with all types of hi-fi gear points to the laws of deminishing returns. At some point, you will run out of money...or your ears will stop hearing an improvement. Which ever comes first is usually where people define the ultimate system. For some of us our ears cut out way before the wallet does...for other's it's the other way around. Either way, I feel that marketing severely misleads us all.
I am constantly mislead by marketing. Usually after buying something thinking a miracle will happen, am I confronted with the truth. Expensive lesson. Yes I've found improvements in "expensive" equipment, but the costs are sometimes obsurd. I have 2 pieces of gear in my system right now to illustrate this point easily. One I would classify as 95% perfect, the other I would classify as 90% perfect. The difference in price is triple. From a fabrication point of view, the 95% piece is very impressive. On this front I've found that I DID get what I paid for. Top end fabrication costs....however the final result of how it sounds doesn't have to.
I'd put my money on well set up midline gear to put the biggest smile on a person's face. I bet debt induced stress is the worst aspect of car audio.

Fat-boy here will weigh in with this........... this is how I define the equipment race.
Consumers that run out and buy the most expensive **** and then either install it themselves (with no knowledge or skills) or want a $50 install on $30000 in gear.
Mark does make a good point and I believe he's speaking from a consumer point of view in trying to lend some advice. As I've ranted about so many times, the final product is a combination of the right install and the correct gear for the application, not how much cash you lay out on fancy equipment. That fact is very important and critical to how a retailer provides value to a customer.
Defro;
Dude, you seem to know some stuff about mobile audio and make some relatively decent posts and good feedback. So why come off like a tool posting this junk?? Mark never said anything about selling the BEST equipment. If you have a personal beef with Mark, take it offline and sort it out there. That sort of crap doesn't do anyone any good and as someone in the industry, you'd think you'd know better.

uhm.... sorry never heard of you, i guess its a good thing that you dont sell the best equipment beacause how would you sleep at night selling all that expensive gear, it would be a true injustice.
