Thanks for the tip Mzarty
I saw it at fs for 8.99 so picked it up and it is recorded very well.
I finally figured out the title, and the acoustic guitar on the cover about three songs in. Haven't finished it yet though. Good stuff.

CD Title: Acoustic Storm
Label: Sheffield Lab
Guitar: Robert Stanton
Acoustic Bass: Dave Stone
Electric Bass: Lee Sklar
Percussion: Luis Conte.

A wonderfully recorded cd, with Sheffield Lab using their vacum tube pre-amps, power amps and mic amps to produce an album which is deep, wide, and with just the correct amount of room echo. It feels like the musicians are right there on the hood of your car. The music is very rich and thick in sound and color. The audiophile palate will be very full and happy listening to this recording on a very good to excellent sound system. The type of music is soft rock. The range of frequencies goes from deep, deep, bass to midbass to midrange to extreme highs, so that all your speakers will be tested.

Alot of care was given to mic placement, along with other factors such as the selection of excellent vacum tube recording equipment, which resulted in a cd of superb audiophile sound quality.

CD Title: OVO
Composer: Peter Gabriel
Label: RealWorld Records

Peter Gabriel has created a recording which travels the world. There are bits and pieces from the 4 corners of this planet. Musical influences from England, Asia, Australia, Africa, the Middle East, Carribean and Europe are present on this cd.

This is very much a theatrical, operatical, and symphonic recording. The music is very eerie and mysterious throughout, almost spooky.

It is based on a story of a family which is at the midst of a crisis.
The father is devoted to his farm and his land, very much into nature and agriculture.
The mother is artistic as she sits at her loom and weaves patterns based on how she sees what will happen in the future.
Their son is attracted to machines and starts a revolution which is supposed to liberate his people from gloom but in actuality ends up imprisoning them even more.
The daughter is quiet and enchanting until she meets one of the sky-people who came down to Earth from the skies above and marries him against the wishes of her father and brother. It is eventually she that leads her people away from destruction and gloom.
OVO is the name of the son of the daughter and the alien from space, who is born into an unknown and uncertain future.

This story is replayed in a gorgeous 3 act series.
Act1 is about mother nature and agriculture, of times gone by.
Act2 is about machinery and is our industrial period, the present.
Act3 is about our future and integrates nature and technology into a whole.

OVO tells the story of these 3 generations (past, present, future) played out in the lives of the people within this family.

The cd itself is a red book cd recorded with 16bit/44.1kHz technology (I think) because there is not a SACD or HDCD logo printed on the cover. Nonetheless, this is an excellent sound quality recording and could be mistaken easily for SACD or HDCD. The orchestration is very deep and wide, with layer upon layer upon layer of music, which an excellent sound system should be able to peel back and reveal what's inside and behind each and every layer.
There were alot of different acoustical insturments and musicians used from around the world on this recording as well as alot of computerized synthesis. Everything blends into one another for an intense whole, yet, all the separates can also be heard.

Peter Gabriel is a former member/musician of Genesis, a British band from the '70s.
Gabriel and REALWORLD RECORDS have done an excellent job planning and recording this gorgeous cd.

Top marks for audiophile sound quality. This is definately, without any hesitation whatsoever, a demonstration quality, reference recording.

Interesting... after reading your review I might have to listen to it again... his latest, "UP" left me disappointed.

CD Title: Alain Lefevre & Orchestre Symphonique de Quebec.

Ensemble: Orchestre Symphonique de Quebec
Conductor: Yaov Talmi
Pianist: Alain Lefevre
Label: Analekta (AN 2 9814)

On this cd we have 3 different concertos by 3 different composers :

The 1st concerto is called "Concerto de Quebec" and was composed by Montreal born composer, Andre Mathieu(1929-1968). Mathieu was a musical child prodigy and was labelled the Mozart of Canada from a very young age. Mathieu completed this concerto in 1943 at the age of 13. Because Mathieu was a powerhouse on the piano, the piano part he wrote for this piece is very difficult as it includes very densely packed chords and requires a giant stretch of the hands.
But since Alain Lefevre is a gifted pianist and musician, this poses no problems for him.
The Orchestre Symphonique de Quebec supports Lefevre and his piano playing to the nth degree as all orchestras should.

The 2nd concerto, called "Warsaw Concerto", was written by Richard Addinsell(1904-1977) in 1941 and is based upon a movie named Dangerous Moonlight...a movie about a Polish concert pianist set agianst the background of the **** invasion of Poland. The emotional and musical charges are high in this composition, and both are rendered beautifully and dramatically by Alain Lefevre and the orchestra.

The 3rd and last concerto on this cd is named "Concerto in F". It was written by the famous American pianist George Gershwin(1898-1937), and was completed in 1925. This is a full length concerto for piano and orchestra. It is classical and symphonic, but it also incorporates a bit of Charleston dance rythm, as Gershwin was fascinated by jazz and classical piano.

Yaov Talmi has been the conductor and music director of this orchestra, the oldest in Canada, since 1998. He has done an impressive job on this recording, leading his orchestra and pianist Alain Lefevre to virtuosic heights.

As usual, Analekta has used 24bit mapping in all aspects of this recording, leaving us with a cd of grand audiophile sound quality.

CD Title: Les Violins du Roy...Celebration

Ensembles: Les Violins du Roy and La Chapelle de Quebec.

Conductor: Bernard Labadie.

Karina Gauvin: Soprano.
Dorothea Roschmann: Sorpano.
Russell Braun: Baritone.

Label: Dorion Recordings (DOR-90024).

In 1984 Bernard Labadie of Quebec founded the ensemble Les Violins du Roy. This is a 15 member string ensemble which does baroque and classical-era chamber music...music from the 17th and 18th centuries. They are recognized internationally and have also won many awards in Canada.

This cd is a compilation of several of the recordings from 5 of their other cd releases.

The recording was done with 24bit mapping. This is an HDCD disk and will sound its best using an HDCD player. The resolution is very high on this recording. I did notice that between some tracks there is total silence and blackness, while between other tracks on this same cd I do hear some noise. I'm not sure why the mastering engineer didn't edit out this noise. I know it's not my audio system making this noise. It's not loud but it is noticeable, and again, it's only between some tracks not all.

Baroque music from the likes of Handel, Vivaldi, Mozart, J.S. Bach and his son J.C.F. Bach are presented on this recording.

Dorion Recordings is a company based in New York state.
