This is going to seem a bit funny.

How the heck do you guys keep track of all these CDs in your car? I mean some of you must have 1000 cds. I only take a portion at a time to the car for listening, maybe 50 to 100 cds at a time.

CD Title: Ray Brown, Monty Alexander, Russell Malone.

Label: TELARC.

This exceptional jazz cd was recorded during 2002, with the latest recording equipment thus resulting in amazing sound quality, dynamic range, and depending on your speaker placement...terrific depth, width and height.

This is a jazz cd where the artists use a stand-up acoustic bass, electric guitar and piano.

The microphones used:
acoustic bass-ELAM 251,
piano-Sennheiser MKH-20,
guitar-Sennheiser MKH-50,
overall-Neumann ku-100.

In studio microphone preamplifier:
Millennia Media HV-3D.

The console: Neve VR72.

Digital Rcording System: Sonoma Direct Stream Digital Workstation.

ADC and DAC: EMM Labs.

Monitored through EMM Labs Switchman Mk2 Surround controller.

Monitor speakers: Genelec 1031.

The sampling frequency during recording is 2.8224 mHz. This results in a frequency response from 0 Hz to beyond 100 kHz, and a dynamic range greather than 120dB.

I listened to this cd in my car late last night. The acoustic bass on this recording gets down damn low escpecially when Ray Brown hits the lowest registers of this instrument hard with his fingers. It will give your subwoofers a very good workout. Ofcourse, with the electric guitar and piano, your midbass, midrange and your tweeters will all get an excellent workout too.
There are alot of fine, inner details recorded onto this cd, and if your sound system is upto to the challenge, you should be able to hear all the little nuances captured on this excellent recording.

I will strongly recommend this cd to any and all SQ fanatics.

CD Title: YIDDISHBBUK.
Label: EMI CLASSICS.

Osvaldo Golijov is a young (in his 40's) modern day Jewish composer who wrote the music for his masterpiece called YIDDISHBBUK.

On this cd, the marvelous ST. LAWRENCE STRING QUARTET plays this gorgeous piece of music. The style of music is very "haunting".

The ST. LAWRENCE STRING QUARTET is a very well established chamber ensemble, originally from Canada, now residing in California.

The instuments on this very fine recording include: violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, double bass.

The sound quality of this recording is phenomenal.

Another superb jazz cd from TELARC with wonderful material and excellent sound quality. Once again, TELARC went all out when recording these artists in their studio, resulting in another phenomenal recording.

CD Title: Papo Vazquez.
Label: Ubiquity Recordings.

This is a Latin jazz cd filled with wonderful trombone playing, piano, guitar, acoustic bass, drums and other percussion.

I have never heard of this record label before, but I'm glad I picked up this cd. It's a very fast paced Latin jazz recording.

Roger Waters-Amused to Death, this is quite the epic if you can find the time to listen to the whole thing cranked on a SQ system. Very powerful.

Pink Floyd-The track just before High Hopes(which is also good) on the Division Bell CD.

Dire Straits-Brothers in Arms, of course, but my favorite track is Private Investigations from Love Over Gold.

Mark Knopfler-Ragpicker's Dream CD. Silver Town Blues from Sailing to Philedelphia CD is also good.

Metallica-Orion instrumental from Master of Puppets CD.

Christian McBride-Jazz upright bass player. Nice vibrant sounds.

Delerium-Some of their stuff is quite good.

DJ John Digweed-Progressive techno amazing funky stuff. Global Underground 014, Global Underground 021, and Bedrock are his best CD's.

I agree about U2's earlier recordings, some great songs, but poor production, unfortunately.

Title:Cello conertos, Shauna Rolston(cello), with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.
Conductor: Mario Bernardi.
Label: CBC.

The musical geniuses of Sir Edward Elgar(1857-1934), Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky(1840-1893), Alexander Glazunov(1865-1936), David Popper(1843-1913), and Camille Saint-Saens(1835-1921) have been beautifully recorded on this cd.

SHAUNA ROLSTON has been a cellist since the age of two and has developed a distinguished international reputation as a soloist, recording artist, proponent of new music and chamber musician.

Some historical info on these composers as outlined in the liner notes. I am quoting almost directly from the liner notes:

The year 1918 found Sir Edward Elgar(England) despondent, disillusioned by the war. Gone was the splendor of his country, his social class and his musical style. Now, in the later stages of his life, Elgar retreated to a cottage in Sussex. The countryside gave him strength and stability and he enjoyed what would be his last major creative outpourings....the Violin Sonata, the String Quartet, the Piano Quintet, and the Concerto in E minor for Cello and Orchestra, Opus 85. It is this last piece of music which has been recorded on this cd.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's String Quartet in D Major Opus 11 was written and premiered in 1871. The music is hauntingly beautiful and is borrowed from a Russian folksong. The "Andante Cantabile" which has been recorded on this cd is the first of his three string quartets.

Alexander Glazunov(Russia) was extraordinarily gifted. He was neither radical in his writing nor fierce in his nationalism, producing music clearly steeped in both Russian and European traditions. His Chant du Menestrel, Opus 71 is a short, lyrical tribute to the faimiliar minstrel figure in everyday Russian life.

One of history's greatest cellists, David Popper(Checkezlovakia) enjoyed a tremedndously rich concert life in his native Prague and Vienna before moving to Budapest. He was cello professor at the Royal Conservatory and cellist of the celbrated Bubay Quartet. Popper composed 75 works mostly for cello. The "Hungarian Rhapsody in D Major, Opus 68" weaves contrasting folk elements into a melodic, colorful showpiece....recorded on this cd.

In addition to his extraordinary career as a virtuoso pianist and organist, Camille Saint-Saens(France) had a remarkable life as a composer.
The "Concerto in A minor for Cello and Orchestra, Opus 33", which is on this cd was written in 1873. This work is continuous and compact, the traditional three movements reduced to one. After a single decisive chord from the orchestra, the cello makes an impressive entry, an outpouring of melody and charm setting the tone for the entire concerto. A playful minuet offers a graceful contrast to the opening drama which returns before a dazzling coda brings the work to a passionate close.
