Antonin Dvorak was a Checzk composer who wrote his masterpieces...SLAVONIK DANCES in 1875.
On this cd, Ivan Fischer conducts the Budapest Festival Orchestra to the music of Dvorak's Slavonic Dances.
The label is PHILIPS, and the sound quality is once again...amazing !!!

Percy Grainger (1882-1961), a British composer who wrote The Warriors...a composition of protest against the world around him at the time of World War 1.
Gustav Holst (1874-1934), a German composer who wrote The Planets...music about the various planets circling our sun.
John Eliot Gardiner conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra to the music of these two composers.

The label is Deutsche Grammophon. The sound quality is...you guessed it...phenomenal !!!

Antonio Vivaldi's (1678-1741) The Four Seasons, as played by the Toronto ensemble...TAFELMUSIK.

The label is Sony Classical, and the sound is very warm and lush.

Niccolo Paganini (1782-1840) composed his twenty four caprices for solo violin in 1820. The standards of performance that he established during his time, still lie at the outer limits of violin technique, and playing his compositions remains one of the most daunting challenges for today's violinists.

Well, this is where James Ehnes steps into the spotlight again.
On his first cd release, James accepted the challenge of playing Pagainini's twenty four caprices, and did so flawlessly.

The label is TELARC, and the sound quality of this cd, as well as the violin playing are both mind boggling.

CD title: Don Ross; Huron Street.
Label: Narada.

This is an entirely acoustic recording done with an acoustic guitar and a stand-up bass.

This is an audiophile cd, recorded at a sample rate of 96KHz and 24-bit resolution.

The sound quality is ofcourse outstanding, and depending on the quality of your car or home audio system, you may or may not be able to hear the subtle finger movements along the strings and frets of Don's acoustic guitar.

All audiophiles should add this recording to their collection.

Keith,

You've got a pretty good list of music to try. Thanks for posting, I'll be sure to check out what I don't already own.

If you like Paganini:

Deutsche Grammophon

Paganini-Voilinkonzerte NOS. 1&2
Paganini-Voilinkonzerte NOS. 3&4

I played violin for 8 years, so I can relate to the brilliance required for such masterworks.

To bad he was killed...

Adam

Hi Adam, it's great to know that there is a classical violinist on this board. Congratulations on being a violin player for the past 8 years.
I will have to check out those Pagannini cd's that you have mentioned.
I have 2 more James Ehnes cd's on order right now. I can't wait to get them and have a listen.
I have been very impressed with Ehnes' violin playing; he makes it sound so easy and yet I'm sure you know how difficult it is to play those sonatas.

The Academy of St. Martin In the Fields is a great ensemble with Neville Mariner as conductor.
