This is a pretty good how-to in my opinion.

Haunz,

I believe you are refering to MLSSA?

Have you ever heard the output signal that is used for generating F/R graphs? It ain't gated bud.

Personally, I'm stuck between what "sounds" more real, and what "feels" more real. I've never found the 2 to meet perfectly in one system.

Most people don't realize that we indevidually employ a personal filter to everything we hear. It's made up of the physiological construction of our ears, damage we have incured to our ears over time, and finally some psyco-accoustic phenomina. Touching on just one point of this, (Scott Buwalda makes a really good explaination of this at his SQ Summit)the frequency response of our ears after hearing damage can change our percieved musical F/R by 10db or more at some frequencies!

For another point, I've found some people get MORE enjoyment from making their stereo sound a certain way that is NOT real. For example, too much bass, or too much dynamic response. For everyone, there are certain characteristics in music that are like a drug...being that they create and exude extreme emotional responses from the listener. While I can relate to have a system that sounds like real instruments, it's not always the most enjoyable way to use our toy ( )stereos.

Adam

as for people which dont have a referance to work from id suggest going to a good high audio shop and asking to listen to a system which is capable of playing both simple music and complex
often to replay a single instrument correctly is just as hard as many together
if you have a good enough subwoofer it can reach
flat down to around 15hz flat
makes like velodyne rel or sunfire make a few models which will reach these extremes easily
Im with this guy! Its true what he says about pipe organs. If you ever have the chance to hear a theatre organ especially in the enviornment that it was meant to be in then you will understand what I mean, there is no instrument in the world that can play as broad a range of sounds and tones as theatre organ. Actually alot of home audiophiles that I have met love to use hifi recordings of pipe organs to tune there home systems with. To get a better feeling for what me and the other guy are talking about listen to these recordings if you get a chance http://www.sonicstudios.com/theatre.htm , they were recorded from what was considered to be the best/most complete Wurlitzer theatre organ in the world http://www.pstos.org/instruments/or/...an-grinder.htm
