^ The 2 way brings with it advantages and compromises. In theory the 3 way should out perform the 2 way every time, that is usually the case in practice as well, but as Adam was mentioning the compromises (of a 2 way or 3 way system) could disqualify it from use i.e. a 3 way system takes up a lot more real estate than a 2 way, also the places all these drivers and crossovers will fit will be more limited in a 3 way (the mid-woofers in my 3 way system are in a compromise location). The freq band a 2 way system has to do can be too broad for the drivers in question and leave the midrange or midbass a little lacking. Basically both can work with the proper combination of drivers, patience, installation skill and money.

I've got a secret midrange that is ruler flat from 1khz up to 5 khz both on and off axis.

But that will a be a project for later...
