Thinkin I should be totally active on this Blazer with the JLs....anyone used the SX7004 with the remote.
I haven't even read the manual yet, so I don't know quite all it does. Three way scares me....the benefits of time alignment are huge.
I remember the very first set of comps I installed in an 81 Civic. A pair of 4" Alphasonic mids and Tweets from the Davids.
Made my own passives from some old noise filter coils, and some caps from the junk drawer. I remember that when the tweet was about 10 1/2" behind the mid, it was like a thick curtain opening up....crystal!
Think it took a day or two to get it OK, then had to do it over once it was in the car....Much rather twist a few knobs to achieve the same thing...but i'm getting old. There is the appeal of the purity of a set of Solens 14ga coils, and Mylar caps, well tuned, that's hard to beat, even in the digital domain. I still use albumns on a Linn, and have yet to hear a CD that can touch em.

Have a funky Tiberon underway, but hopefully get it finished today, and get into this Blazer.
Need some ideas....I'll post pics of what we have so far, and maybe a few ideas can flow our way..

Think the horns don't win as much, can be attributed to the cost...What's the percentage of competitors that use horns, that win? Horn users are the minority, because of the initial cost/risk, and to hear that they hold their own in percentage of wins would seem to be an accomplishment. (just trying to stay on topic thru the Bud.)
Never had the pleasure of listening to a well installed set. Had an early set of IDs in a showroom once, but never got the chance to play with em in a car. Freakin HUGE! Fear of the unknown probably plays a big factor too. Risky business going into the unknown. But the thrill of it all.....

im pretty sure that cost doesnt scare people away from horns., ever see how much the scanspeak, the utopia, and some of the raw drivers cost that people use. purity is filtering in the digital domain, so the negative side effects of passives dont get a chance to infect your signal

Be interesting to see a breakdown of percentages tho.
And what is the average cost of the front stage in the winners cars?
I guess if you start with a digital source, and have enough processing power, then digital would be the way to stay. Certainly offers unlimited choices of slope and frequency at your finger tips. The odds of getting everything perfect with passives first try are small...

Why, are they picky or just that hard to use? Maybe they just need even more features like Auto Nut-Scratch and System De-Suck? [img]graemlins/dunno.gif[/img]

And an active system doesn't require as much forethought. You blow the upper cutoff of your mid by an octave and all you have to do is dial it up/down. Do that with a passive setup and you're reaching for the soldering iron... You need to know much better what the driver is capable of.

That's because I am right and there is no argument for it.

Of course I am referring to the active/passive comments and not my question about if the Alpines are hard to operate or just have too many features.
