Now I am neither for or against the pxha900, but it seems to me like this is a no win arguement.

The way I see it is that Alpine made something for a specific market. Sure you could go out and buy everything seperate to do a similar job, but they designed it to do it all in 1 piece. The reason for the cost I imagine is from the amount of engineering time, and materials that went into the 900.

So for those who can't afford one, maybe go to a store that has one and ask to see it in action. See if it is the machine that it is stated to be. For those that can afford one, go get it and try it. And this isn't really about money, it is about personal preference I think, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. There is no right or wrong here.

I went to a store that as I was told sells the most in North America and yet they did not have it ready to demo for me. What's a guy to do?

I have listened to a few cars with them. I have installed and played with a 700. It's a great piece to be sure, but it isn't something that "every" car stereo needs.

Kinslayr 05-27-2005 11:13 AM

No, "every" car may not need one, but there are those that it might be the one piece that they are looking for.

And if they don't have one ready, ask them if it would be possible to hear one when one comes in?

sorry sux, woulda like to have met you, its fully functional now both on display and in a cartain neon, that is 95% done finally, after around 500 hours and a ton of mountain crest, the list of things to do is less than 20

dwvw , i was saying that the 900 can do all of the things that various other prodcuts you are using does, just in one peice and higher quality

i dont think that the 900 is for every car stereo, and maybe it only applies to 1% of the car audio market, and that makes sense, its 6000$. but it is arguably the coolest piece of car audio ever made. i am very happy to be able to sell them and install them for people, and look forward to next week when i get to start a project for the bacic consumer 601-1200 watts class, that will have one and a few other goodies

i suspect that having a 900 in a store demo environment would not do it justice, you would have to hear one set up in a car to get the proper result.

See now Dave - that is the point that I thought I had been trying to make for a year now: Excellent piece but not every system needs it.

I'd like to pick up a 700 at a decent price though.

defro13 05-27-2005 04:07 PM

i never said that every sytems needs it, but practically every sytem without it could benefit in one way or the other and that makes is worth every cent to some and not to others, that has been my point for a year

Dereck Waller 05-28-2005 08:03 AM

Okay if I have a cd player with some coax's running off that, and a single monoblock amp running a pair of ten's, how is the PXHA900 worth every cent to my system? Because I would say that is how a good 60% of systems are comprised here.

defro13 05-28-2005 08:30 AM

it isnt worth it to that system, ive said it before, but i guess i'll say it once again, the pxah900 ISNT FOR EVERYONE OR EVERY SYSTEM. im going to have to explain this one more time. if you have a system like you said there would be a benefit in using the 900, but would be better suited for the 700 or 701, but if the system had a monoblock and a four channel and had 2 10" woofers and a good pair of component speakers, the system would definitly benefit from the 900. you could use the incredible d/a conversion, the digital crossover, the time correctiion maybe, the eq capabilities, the hdcd capabilities, the phase adjustment, the preset capabilities, again that is why i said that it is worth it to some and not to others, if i have to keep repeating myself this is going to get boring
