Amp Powers up but sub doesnt work ....

So last week i was playing my system with everything working fine .. and after starting my car a couple hours later i realized my sub wasnt working. I have a sony explode amp and a 12'' mtx sub, the amps powers been set to a bit over half way and I did have the bass boost up to about 3/4, plus it was switched to low pass filter. All this is running off a stock head unit so I have RCAs running from a line out converter and the remote spliced into the ignition behind the head unit.

The problem is that the amp power LED lights up but the subs don't work. The other day it even drained my battery while i was waiting in a parking lot for about 20min, so I know that it is getting power. After that incident i've decided to unhook the 4 gauge wire connected to my battery terminal. I really thought that 1 amp + 1 sub wouldn't drain my battery, but this is the 2nd time.

Can anyone tell me what could possibly be the problem? The RCA's, amp fuse, wiring fuse ... i dont know much about car audio outside of my system install.

Sometimes the amp also displays a red offset light, i managed to get the sub working for about 4seconds messing around with the settings .. but after those 4seconds never again.

Thanks

Here are a few theories.

1. Check if your amp has a good ground connection. I had that happen to me, and it was because my ground was bad.

2. Check if your sub is ok. If it has an open or shorted voice coil, it won't work. You should read a small resistance with a multimeter. If you get "0" or "OL", your sub is gone.

3. Check your signal wires.

But, I've a feeling it's a bad ground. I was getting 0.xxxx ohms for my ground to battery connection. And, it was too high for the amp to get proper power. I then grounded by making a hole in the trunk floor with a new screw and it was fine after.

Check your ground for sure but also double check all your other connects. all it takes is one strand from your wire to be touching something else to cause problems.

Use a multimeter, it will make things alot easier!

omg

check your gorund wire carefully...i had this ahppen to my friend with a sony xploud 1200 watts amp with a rockford fosgate t2..and when he turned the car on..amp went on and the sub didn't workk....
he kept trying and trying then eventully it created a spark(ground wire) and the whole car was on fire...
so if i were you i would check all connections over again...
also check the wires from amp to sub...
