amp and sub question

I have heard of some people using two amps to power one big subwoofer. How is this possible? Do you use the voicecoils seperatly, I mean, one amp for each voicecoil or what? Does it have anything to do with strapping amps? I have heard of that term but I don't know what it is.

its done by strapping amps. basically making 2 amps act like one big one.

you COULD use one amp on each coil (provided its a DVC sub) but you would have to match the gains.

I've seen 2 amps to one sub work great. All you have to do is match the phase and level, feed both amps the same signal.

I'm debating weather to run my 2 channel amp to my DVC 2 ohm sub that way, or to bridge the amp and series the coils to 4 ohm? Would it make any difference?
