Best sub match up for my Amp(s)

Okay, I have a Kicker ZX400.1 mono and want to run it to a pair of 10 inch subs for tight bass. I will be using 4080 sub enclosures that have about .85 cubic feet. Can I run a pair of 10's and how should I wire and at what ohms. Should I get a second amp so that I can power each sub individually or is that necessary. Lot of questions I know - newbie here...

For 2 subs, 400 W isn't that much power...

You could try 2 Alpine type E 4ohm woofers wiring in parallel (giving you 2 ohms which will put out the max power of your amplifer).
Alpine SWE-1042 Subwoofers

2 Kicker Comp 10" 4ohm wired in parallel Kicker 07C10-4 Subwoofers

2 MTX 10" wired in parallel.
MTX T4510-04 Subwoofers

2 Orion 10 " in coils wired in series then woofers in parallel
Orion C2 102 Subwoofers

2 Rockford P2 10" wired in parallel
Rockford Fosgate P210S4 Subwoofers

Lots of options man. Did you have anything in mind?

Your thoughts...

Haven't selected sub woofers yet but these have my attention
Kicker 06CVX10-2
10" 1200W Dual 2-Ohm Subwoofer

I realize now that ZX400.1 would be lacking in power to drive these but what if I ran the coils in series and then the 2 subs in parallel at rating of 2 ohm total?

Am I dreaming or should I get a second ZX400.1 or scrap it for something more like a ZX1000.1?

Just go bigger

Hey man if you cant afford a bigger amp just go with a bigger box. I only have one 12 and a 200rms phoenix amp and just hit a 141 even at my last comp. Big amps are good but your kicker amp should do good even with one sub. if you have anymore questions just reply. And smoke has great recommendations aswell. Start small and work you're way up, you dont want too much and have everything go wrong on you. Better to be safe then sorry.

Since you seemed set on 2 10" woofers, I didn't make any other recommendations.

With 400 RMS I would probably look at running 1 12" in a ported box. You will probably get louder that way rather than under powering 2 10" subs.

Go with one sub with this amp. That Kicker probably does 450 watts. 12" Kicker L5 will pound very good.

Yes, I think I will start out with one sub to start and go from there - thanks for the input gang

my opinion I would get a kicker L5 as sasha mentioned, that 400.1 would be just perfect, but make sure you make a nice big ported box and tune it right, if all this is done right it should sound like you have 2 twelves!
