building up my system. need input and ideas
Hello all I am in the midst of building my system for my car and I don’t want to spend to much more on the system. I want to get the most power to the speakers and subs as I can. First off my head unit is a Pioneer DEH-P3000IB. I have 2 infinity kappa 12" 120.1 SE subs with two Autotek SM1-1500 Mono-Channel amps. I also have a Kenwood KAC-Q74 amp. My speakers are 2 x infinity Reference series 551i 5 ¼” 45RMS speakers. 2 x infinity Reference series 605 CS 90RMS 6 ½” speakers and 2 x infinity Reference series 505 CS 5 ¼” 75RMS speakers. My plans are to get 2 infinity tweeters and another amp. I did have a pioneer GM-X952 “I believe” it was amp that I sold to my friend and he is now without a car So I could possibly buy it back for cheep. But this way not all of my speakers will be using there full potential. So I’m not sure what I should do or how I should run my set up. I have had lots of sound systems in my car but I just threw them together pretty poorly but now I want it done right and the best it can be done with as little money spent further on the system. So on that note I have a little experience but nothing compared to a lot of you on this forum.
Thanks for your ideas and input,
Jon35.

"less is more"
First, what car?
For the frontstage i would only use the 605 in the doors (properly installed with lots of deadener) and sell de 5,25 sets and amp to get a better amp (2x75ch RMS@4ohms).
For your substage, what kind of box do you have? Those 2 amps are overrated and are not a good match for the subs. You want an amp that will do a bit more than 600w RMS @ 2ohms and wire both sub to it.
Does your HU have more than 1 pair of RCA?

Head unit is a sore spot as well, while it does have the necessary outputs, it also has a really low preout voltage. Bychanging to a different head unit, the system will come to life. That is the least of your worries though and should be the last thing to change. Less is more is exactly correct, you have a grab bag of equipment trying to make it work and are prepared to throw more money at it to do so. Consider eliminating some of the items and replacing them with ones that are more suited to the grab bag of gear to make a system out of it. Keep the subs, keep the rear speakers. Replace the front speakers, replace the sub amp. Use the driftwood amp for now as well. Lots of options for you to consider dependent upon your budget and end goals. Always post what the vehicle is that this is going into, the more info you post, the easier it is to come up with recommendations.
My car is a 2001 nissan sentra 4 door se (sorry)
i was planning on building a box for my subs.
I guess i should have asked this question before i spend the money. I just bought the subs and the amps. I guess i red wrong about subs and amps i heard that you can have 30% more RMS on the amp then the sub. at 300RMS 4 ohms for the sub and 375RMS at 4 ohms for the amp i didnt think it was going to be much of an issue
My HU has 2 pairs of RCA's
Yah my HU is just a cheep one i picked up because my other deck got fried. I was thinking of picking a new one down the road. As for money to put into it im a little hesitant to drop to much more into it but some for sure. My goals for the system is just to have a good sounding system and when i want to crank it i can and it will be hard hitting with no distortion and something i can feel and show off. I'm not into something super crazy haha im sure alot of you would laugh at my old set up :P i had a schooshe 12" hooked up to a mtx thunder TA3202. with some $20 speakers from walmart running on my HU i have now. So yah i like my bass but it was a little to much in that car an equal amount of both would be a cool goal if i can reach it.
