I say just buy some sound deadner, sound deaden your trunk and door panles, build a slot ported box, fire it towards the back, reason being is that the bass bounces off the trunk and fires into the interior, with ported (correct me if im wrong) it sounds louder from further away... A sealed box will sound louder out side of the vechile then a ported box (when windows are down) becouse with sleaed and windows down, that acts as a port and the sound will exit out of there faster, and then ported it will be slower becouse its main box (sub box) is already ported...

IMO ported is louder, but not always cleaner... Its deeper for sure. Dont cut the hole in your rear dash. If your seat folds down, then just do that for when its just your self driving around.. Im sure with 4 people in the car you do more talkin then just listen to beats...

oh well good luck with what you are doing! But I would do the sound deadner, and then either ported (better) sealed (weaker) and face it towards the trunk, BEFORE you start to chop your ride

Install the sound deadener for sure. You can't go wrong by getting it done, and it will leave you with your rear package shelf still in place. Seen people who have cut theirs and have regreted it ever since.

instead of cuting out the back dash or facing the sub toward the back of the trunk, will it work just as well if i face the sub forward and make the box flush with the back seat so when the seats are folded down, the sub and ports are right there and sealed from the trunk?

Good luck with the build, if you car has creaks and rattles I have to ask, how old is your vehicle. My point is that a lot of creaks and groans come from worn shocks and sagging springs (or lots of abuse with an aftermarket suspension). I solved my creaks and groans with new shocks and springs and a liberal application of sound deadener (Dynamat/brown bread/ etc. like stuff). You started this post addressing cutting the deck and welding in support, you obviously have been giving this some thought Vamp-girl. Cutting the deck is generally … a poor idea though everyone here has probably done it at least once and some very successfully. Your plan is good and should work well (Dukk and DWVW are two of the senior installers here) so doing what they say (within reason) is generally a good idea.

I has been done to other cars...

High performance ones I might add.

This is the before....

....and after shot of my rear deck.

Here's what went in.

Just make sure if you take this route that the baffle or box is suspended. That is not directly coupled to the chasis. The chasis flexes. Also, use some sort of fabric (I used carpet) between metal parts as they will scrape and make noises.
