How To Use Crimp Style Ring Terminals "Pics"
#21
Hm
Something occurred to me having ripped the crimp off of my cables at extremely inopportune times in the past..
1 or 2 loops of tape around the terminal and wire, using an impact crimper, a pair of vice grips and a C-Clamp you could crimp wire just about anywhere, even after its run in the car and it wouldnt be crap either, hell you could even pre-tin the wire and flux prior to, a bit of solder and shrink wrap.
You now have a proper crimp that you'd do on a work bench in your trunk without too much trouble.
Might try it sometime.

Without the proper crimpers for the right gauge wire, I would solder the terminal. When dealing with massive amounts of current, that tiny dimple will only cause a electrical stress point and the current will concentrate on that single point of least resistance producing heat and power loss.

Use of the proper sized crimper for the lug is the right way to go. With crimp on conectors if you over crimp the lug you will cut into some strands of copper wire thus lowering the overall current handling capacity of the lead. Too little pressure on the crimp leaves weak connection that may pull out. One way around all of this is to simply solder on all cable end connectors.
