Frig Im SOOOO confused! I have a base model 2006 Cobalt LS, has airbags and all the usual on dash indicators (oil life etc) do I need this thing or not, I really need to know because it's the difference of almost 200 dollars that I would love to put towards speakers and other things into my car. What do you mean by running your own constant 12 v as well.

So no onstar then? Well if you want to keep the door chimes (for headlights on, key in the ignition etc) it goes through the radio, even when the ignition is off and there is no remote power signal. The easiest way is to get the harness (gmlan03). The cheapest way is to give up the chimes when the ignition is off, just remember your keys and lights. Some people wire up a small dedicated speaker for it.
