Greetings all

I'm pretty new to aftermarket car audio but I'm sick of the stock system in my car. So I'm looking to install a pretty basic aftermarket system that won't break the bank. Basically, I'm gonna need it all: speakers (obviously), head unit, sub (note: singular), amps, etc. I'm looking for suggestions on what to get to maximize sound quality in an '01 Civic four-door (yeah, yeah I know... Really typical for a 20-year-old guy :P). Don't get me wrong, I still like it loud every now and again, but quality is more important to me than SPL.

So what do I actually need? I know I'm going to need speakers, a head unit, amp and sub, but what am I looking for in those? I'm looking at the JBL GTO1204BP (pre-loaded 12" GTO sub) and the Alpine iDAX001 for its iPod input. Any recommendations on well-priced, good quality speakers and amps and just general advice anyone has for the system are greatly appreciated. Cheers

 

ok, make sure your sub is a dual voice coil 4 ohmer, or a single 2 ohmer, so yuo can wire it to two ohms. You can get Kicker 700.5 on Ebay refurbished cheap, and talk to user Ross on this forum for some nice CDT coaxials and/or components(CL or EF are not expensive, and sound good). I would go the EF route for a bit more money. Bam!!!

Half of what you just said went way over my head :P Guess I don't know nearly as much as I thought. Could you break it down a little bit more? And maybe spec out a system?

Oh, and what the heck do those acronyms mean? :P

 

When I first started out I set myself a budget that was too low, if I had doubled it it probably wouldn't have taken me three years to finaly have something I like. Problem was that going with cheap stuff it didn't last.
Honestly I think it takes $3000 start to finish for everything to have system that sounds way better then stock.
There are hidden exspences like maybe a new alternator, big '3', install, wiring kit, custome sub box, car alarm to protect your investment etc.
