Specific sound deadening questions...
Hello all, this is my first post here. I used the search function and didnt find an answer to my specific questions, so here goes:
1. I am installing 100 sq. ft. of B-quiet extreme in my '91 4-door lumina. underneath the carpet there is some stock sound deadening material. Should I rip this out? Or put the b-quiet underneath and put it back?
I was thinking that the stock deadener would actually deaden the sound (energy lost), while the b-quiet (and all the other variants of dynamat), are different, in that there isnt energy lost, and the music is therefore louder (Am I out to lunch on this one?). If this assumption is correct, then the stock deadener should go.
2. Should I put b-quiet behind the rear seat? (on the mat that is right behind the rear seat, which separates the trunk from the rear seat). If I do this, wont I be sealing off the trunk from the rest of the car, and making my subs quieter?
3. Would it be beneficial to put b-quiet on the rear 2 doors, even though there will be no speakers in these doors? I guess I am asking which places in the car should I concentrate my efforts, for best results?

Keep the stock deadener. Put the B-Quiet where the noise is. Noise is composed of different elements. There is road noise, wind noise, suspension noise, engine noise etc. figure out what is worst in your car and work on those areas first as you will get the biggest improvement for the effort there.
Do what DWVW says, don't separate your trunk from your car, it will make your subs quiet. If you make a list of places you need to deaden, the rear doors would be near the end. 1- front doors 2 front floors, and firewall. 3 roof, 4 trunk, 5 rear doors, etc.
