Ok, so I’ve got a pair of cheap dj speakers, 12” woofer, 5” mid and a horn tweeter. Each cabinet has 2 super cheap 2” long x 1-1/2” dia ports. When the air gets moving through them you can hear it and its pretty ****ty and annoying. I’m thinking about taking the ports out and cutting out between them to fit in a slot port , or possibly make the holes bigger for proper ports? By doing this I want to get rid of the port noise and I’m also hoping to gain a bit more output from the cabinets. I figure cutting out for a slot and trying different lengths of slots would be easiest until I find something that I like. As a rough start I used this calculator http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=31 . I’m thinking that having it tuned to around 40hz is a good start. I will also try ports for 35 hz and 45 hz to see what sounds good. The box is approx 3.8-4.0cu’.
Any feedback or suggestions from veteran box builders would be appreciated, I’ve built a couple car boxes that I’ve liked but this will be my first home audio porting project.
If it matters at all or if your curious the speakers are powered by a crown ce1000 amp
