Ontario's Pit Bull Ban

so lets assume that most of the pitbull problems can be associated to irresponsible owners, as far as the governmant goes, its easier to silence those with no voice, aka the dogs, by banning them, you cant ban the owners, they can p!ss and moan all they want, fact remains that there are far more people that are happy with the ban than there are upset, if this went to a national referendum, there wouldnt be any pitbulls in the country, and it would be a safer place for everone, including the owners, both good and bad

Lets ban all dogs that have the capacity to kill or maim.
Shepards
Huskys
Akitas
Malamuts
Boxers
Dalmations
Standard Poodles
Dobies
Hmmm, im sure there are more dogs out there that can do dammage - lets just ban them all!!!!!!
While we are at it, lets ban everything else that can kill or maim:
Guns
Knifes
Automobiles
Large sticks
broken bottles
Propane torches
A BAN IS NOT THE ANSWER IT WILL NOT STOP DOGS BEING VIOLENT - why can't any of you people understand that?
I never said a ban was the answer to anything. I'm just saying that I can understand the reasoning behind it. After a series of particularily nasty attacks gained some public attention, the government HAD to do something. Harsher penalties on owners wouldn't necessarily stop the attacks. The point is to be preventative, not punative. Sending a dog owner to jail is not going to give the little boy his arm back, or whatever the case may be.
Do you really think the government singled out pit bulls for no reason? They were responding to a public outcry. Of course a ban will not stop dogs from being violent. Yet in other countries, dog bans have decreased attacks (statistically), and that's all the proof the government needed.

I love pit bulls, but I can understand the reason for the ban. Pit bulls don't just bite. They maim, mutilate, and kill.
It's ridiculous to think that every dog who attacks someone was either abused or trained to do so. There have been many instances where well-behaved dogs have just snapped, and gone to town on a creature that posed absolutely no threat to it - say, a miniature poodle, or a 3-year-old girl.

I'll venture to say that that's 50% of the problem though......the other 50% is that the dog wasn't trained well enough or at all.
With a responsible owner that has trained the animal properly and takes care of the animal, it will not attack without being provoked. Bottom line.

As for the ban amen to the judge for approving it because it'll make people learn using the same tactic as disciplining a child. If you can't play nicely with the toy and share it no one gets it. If you can't be responsible with a pitbull no one gets one.
The ban won't last forever I don't think anyone realizes that, but form here on out while it stands its for people to friggin learn! There was a friggin reason for it and if you can't see it my god your stupid.
I honestly can't believe this thread is still going because now its stupid. As I said before its the same thing being repeated over and over again.
And Brandon - Sh*t happens. Guns do go off sometimes, maybe not with you, but you cannot speak for other irresponsible people or even the most responsible people and an accident just happens. And if you can't not cry over a stupid cat bite you're a wuss. You're 10 times if not more the size of a cat they're harmless.

What CAN'T you understand about the fact that the ban is not only about the dogs, but for people who own them to be punished?? You guys friggin preach its not about the breed its about the owner, well so is 50% of the friggin ban!!!!

I'm with Gilligan....shut this bitch down...people are obviously too stupid to understand our point, or they just won't listen...if they got attacked by a Sheppard they'd want to ban them too.
Elevators don't just fall down a whole shaft, guns don't go off for no reason and dogs don't bite without being provoked. it's that simple, if you don't want to listen to people with experience than you are ALL fools.

one of my dogs was attacked with no warning
dogs are animals and don't think the same way we do they have instints and you won't take that away from them
^^Childish or not the point I was making was that you cannot ban something or someone just because it has the capacity to inflict harm.
People who want to own these dogs still will.So what is the ban preventing?
Responsible pet owners from aquiring new pit bulls. It is not preventing bad owners from owning bad dogs. And the last thing it will ever acomplish is a change in the behavior problems of the dogs and there owners. That change comes about only after many generations of proper breeding and training. Something that will never happen if responsible breeders and owners are not allowed the right to do so.
Does anyone think banning guns would stop people being hurt by guns?
Again I restate:
The ban is the wrong way to fix the problem.
By allowing this ban it opens the door for banning every breed of large dog.

A simple question.
How many of the people that are pro-ban on pitbulls ever owned one?
Have you been maimed or attacked by a pitbull?
Did you read in the news paper or hear it on TV about a vicious attack and then decided to make up your mind about these dogs?
Do you always ask an owner of ANY dog if it is ok to pet it or just stick your hand out and see what happens?
All those forementioned properties (guns, cars, etc) are controlled by the owner. BUT who controls the owner?
Did anyone make the pitbull rally held in Kelowna? Vancouver? I did make both of them and had a great time. Met some wonderfull bully owners, and ended up resuing a gamebully from Vancouver.
Too bad the *** that owned her, di not bother with veteranarian care for her. She was so emaciated that we could not save her or unborn pups. She didnt deserve this.
I know this will make some anti bully people on this board happier than hell.
Kind of funny that all you read or hear about is the bad thingsthat happen by ANY breed of dog. What about the good things.
How about the pit, the lab, and the smaller breed that goes on the elderly visitation tours. My male has been on tour, been to school, both elementary and high school.
We have taken him off the tour because he is just to big and heavy to be a lapdog. At just short of 100 pounds, old gramma couldnt bare the weight on her lap no how.
read into anyway you like and I have had no crime in my neighborhood. Thats because if my very vocal little heinz57, he barks and the bully investigates.
Jump out of a busg at my bully and he would **** his pants, but the little dog would get ya.
Oh yeah, the little dog being almost 16, rules the roost at my house. Now he is the tough doggy?
Sorry but I will defend my choice of animal to whatever means it takes.
yes I have seen both sides of this breed.
