For me, it was my PS cooler that broke last week... The worst is that the most expensive was the fluid and not the parts or labor!

The day b4 it broke I started smelling burnt oil (engine oil burnt smell) and the PS in Caravan use transmission fluid (fruity smell), so I was wondering if the tranny oil when burnt smell like engine oil? Says yes!!!

Burned tranny fluid has a dull, dried blood color instead of cherry red and has the same smell as burned asbestos almost. Like when you install new brakes and use them the first few times, similar to a burned voice coil.

In actual fact transmission fluid is clear, but they addd a red dye to identify leaks and help differentiate from engine oil.

It is completely different than a burning engine oil smell.

Oh, power steering fluid is different than transmission fluid. Transmission fluid has a boatload of friction modifiers and other additives. They can both be red though.

In reality it could also be called hydraulic fluid since modern transmissions are more or less sealed hydraulic units.

I was hoping that it was the same... The smell is not constant, and my oil level still good, ill do a visual check this weekend and see from there.

Thanks

It may be coolant. Coolant smells sort of sweet as it burns off. Part of the reason poor dogs and cats drink it and die horrible, agonizing, deaths.

Coolant is generally green or yellow in color and will produce a very whitish smoke when burning, as opposed to a bluish white from oil burning.

Seriously, go park the vehicle on a clean floor, or on fresh snow and tell me WHAT is dripping and WHERE it is dripping. I will help if I can.
