Poor Decision? Or Not?

I hate to be a *****, but it works like this.
If you want something, you have to play by the rules.
To own and operate a vehicle in any province, you need insurance.
So, if you 19, 16, 45 or whatever, and you think it's OK to not have insurance becuase you can't afford it, you are wrong. What you can't afford is a car. Three options, check the tire pressures on your Supercycle. Slap some polish on those Nike's or take public transportation.
Since you (and this is the general 'you', not directed at any one person) all wonder why car insurance is so expensive, I'll give you some serious insight. My wife, an Athletic Therapist and Kinisiologist is currently working for an insurance company in the Accident Benefits department. The number one waste of money in that company (now one of the largest insurance companies in Ontario) is fraudulent claims supported and promoted by legal reps (lawyers).
The tales I can tell you about how they try and 'scam' more money from the insurance company, even when the injured people want to go back to work would make you sick.
Please pass this message along to everyone you've ever met. If you get into an accident, and are physically injured. DO NOT get legal representation unless the injuries involve a permanent condition like a loss of limb, etc. The support and treatment you will get from you insurance company will be 10x what you get if you have a legal rep.
Anyways Bootleg, now that I am done ranting.. Sorry to hear your buds made some bad decisions. I hope they can work through everything and come out OK.

here are some other facts for you about insurance claims relating to "whiplash". In countries where you cannot sue for "whiplash" there are almost no claims of whiplash injuries. Smash up Derby drivers get in hundreds of "accidents" a year but almost never get whiplash injuries.
Basically it's a condition which can't be tested for so it goes through. Now don't get me wrong I know people get actual spinal injuries that are provable, but whiplash was invented by lawyers not medical experts!
Also notice that it costs say $1000 to fix something out of pocket but the same procedure under insurance is worth $1700

He nows has to pay off this truck without a job somehow because he was an oilfield consultant and that truck was his job.
