He knows he was wrong. However, it seems like it was misuse of the officer's authority and power. People get away all the time from cops and they should have to deal with it just as he now has to deal with his ticket. Just because he sees a blue truck again and is 95% sure it was the same guy isn't enough. A police officer shouldn't just be able to pull over any blue truck he wants to, just as he shouldn't have been driving with his seatbelt off. Personally, I think they're both in the wrong and it should be noted as so.

I think it would be worth going to court and simply saying that. Whether you admit your guilt or not, the fact is the cop saw someone in a blue truck with no belt on, and five minutes later he pulls over a blue truck and says, "I'm giving you a ticket". But, then freely admits I didn't have your plate and or any other info to identify you 100%. That's just as wrong as him not wearing his seatbelt. And I think that's his only point.

GUY - you said you had a quad on the back of your truck and thats how the cop identified you........ you also said you were only 4-5blocks away when he nailed you....

If it was 1/2hr later on the opposite side of the city, or your truck wasn't easilly identifiable... you might have a pot to **** in.....

but guess what, he obviously was able to identify the truck, and if he could see you didn't have a belt on Iam sure he could see your face and was not only able to identify your truck, but YOU as well......

try your luck in court but I wouldn't expect any judge, or any one here for that matter, to be sympathetic......

what the cop did was perfectly reasonable....

GUY-I work with an individual that has the same color truck, and carries his quad around in the back of his truck. A block away from my house there were no less that about 20 vehicles parked while they were riding their quads. I don't live in Metropolitan Toronto, I live in a smallish city where outdoor activities like quading and snowmobiling are huge.

I'm not sure if your familiar with the law system, but around here you are innocent untill proven guilty. As far as I am concerned the cop could not prove WITHOUT A REASONABLE DOUBT that it was me in another part of town (ie-licence plate #) AND I WAS NOT WEARING MY BELT AT THAT TIME. Like Eastside said, he may have been 95% certain it was me, and he may have been 95% certain I was not wearing my belt, but that doesn't cut it as far as I am concerned.

Guy-grow a sack and leave the names out of it.

You sound just like the cop:

"Even though I didn't pull you over and confirm you didn't have a belt on, you are guilty, end of story".

The only reason you know I am guilty is because I said I was...

Anyways, this thread is beyond dead...

I will be sure to post an update when it is all settled.

so what you are saying is that if you had 1/2 a clue you would have played coy and got off in the first place.... but you didn't.....

you full out admitted what you did in your first post, then tried to play coy with us later...... just like you didn't deny anything when you got pulled over... and now you think you can play coy with a judge...?

by all means I hope you get off scott free... but I don't think your chances are that good.....

If you have to pay the fine feel good cause you just helped kids in your neighbourhood with playground equipment.... How does that sound ?? Think of how your unfortunate circumstances might benifit others......

or go vandalize some , I don't care..... just quit being a bitch whining about how unfair it is .....

Holy ...For what, about the 10th time now... I don't care that I got a ticket or that I have to pay a $110 fine, I make that before my first coffee break in the morning.

The police officer abused his authority IMO, and probably gave me the ticket because he was pissed he didn't get a chance to pull me over when he first saw me.

Maybe rather than disputing the ticket, the appropriate action would be to try and contact a supervisor at the detachment or IA (if such a thing exists), and explain the situation. Perhaps Rob might know.

Lets leave it at that...

I agree. It's not that you didn't deserve the ticket, it's just, why does the cop just have the right to ticket people, when even by his own admission, he could not be sure it was you with no plate number? Whether he didn't buckle up or not, I don't think the police officer's actions were 100% appropriate.

Like I said, I agree with both sides.
