Just wanted add i have done tons of transactions on ebay and so far (X my fingers) never been screwed. i guess its buyer beware!

That sucks man. As it has been said somewhat already:

1) File a complaint with the police
2) In the future have any personal sales list the item on Ebay and then have them sell it to you. Then you have yourself covered a bit more.
