1st shows of the year ?
there is. Contact james(westec) or marty(gold saturn spl). thats what they do. You pay them a lump sum, and they put on a show, bring trophies, etc. they usually can do it with the 2 of them and a little help from the people hosting.
as far as sanctions, we tried really hard to get to db drag world finals last year. now we have a good jump on points for this season, but because they are looking to only have 1 north american world finals event, we probably won't be builing to that sanctions rules this year. there is no way in hell that erin and I will place 4th or better this year at worlds, so it would be a waste of time to drive 5000+ miles to worlds. I am thinking usaci this year, just because it is a litlle easier to get high #'s, and it draws in a crowd. but we still are really stuck on what we plan to build for. no matter what sanction we do build for though, we will still likely take part in other sanctions events as well.......trophies and swag is cool....
the best trophies I have gottin to date, with the exception of my worlds finals trophy, was my soundstream plaque they are dead sexy! They have them alot in ont but not so much in western! James and Marty are the guys to talk to about doing DB drag shows. They put on great events, supply trophies, mics, etc and its a lot of fun competing in there shows!
James said that he won't be doing it anymore.
I don't really want to dig into my pocket much either. I would like to have shows, but how much is it going to cost me to show everyone a good time?
While it seems like a great way to spend my hard earned money, it doesn't make a whole lot of business sense except to gain a return.
Our last show ended up costing me over $700.00 after everything got paid for. Norm didn't make any money on his events.
The industry is in need of some kick in the ***, but I don't want to spend over $100.00 each time I invest into it's growth so that the kid down the street buys something from Crutchfields, Best Buy or Future Shop. My intention is to have these new people buy stuff and have it installed at an independent shop...like mine.
From a business point of view, my advertising dollars would be better spent on the Yellow Pages bastards that always seem to f^ck up my address or category! (no resentment here!)

that sux.....I think the biggest issue is $, and where it comes from. we all want to have a good time, but as you say keith, the people who put on the shows end up footing the bill everytime. I for one don't think that's fair. I can remember how much trouble Norm had last year, trying to get his suppliers to sponser swag for his shows. Alot of them would not even spring for stickers for him to give away. I agree, something needs to change, either 1) a bit of help from the suppliers, or 2)ALOT more competitors. Seems like spl in general is slowly dying. It's sad really, but all good things have to come to an end.
If I only have to spend $100.00, per show, I'll do it for the fun of it.
My vendors are more than willing to throw swag my way. Last year I got a top of the line Compustar alarm/starter system, a $400.00 Pioneer deck, a $250.00 DD amp, t-shirts, hats and stickers to give away. So, I don't think that will be a problem.
My only concern is the solution to this puzzle. Should I purchase welfare trophies and get bitched at from competitors for being cheap? Should I charge more to enter? Should I sleep with another shop to put on a larger event that will draw more, but cost more and hope that it doesn't rain? Sombody out there has the experience that I'm looking for. Give it!
