have not metered it yet. nor is my box ported correctly right now. having trouble finding the proper bolt on port. 5$ circle bit for my terminals from home depot. only other tool i needed was a drill.... although i got my friend to lend me his jigsaw for the sub holes. so good point on the tool thing. but still after carpet terminals and wiring im at 110 bucks and about 5 hours labour. but for this size box local shops wanted 4 - 500 bucks. as soon as i find my desired port look. ill be golden. and i did keep total integrity of the car. its all a trunk unit and i can keep my back seats up. but it does fit like a glove

im not expecting my meter to be to high yet. my amps are poor at best to push these subs. that mtx is there biggest monoblock correct? im only running 2 A8002t's by audiobahn. one is registered at 987rms other is 972rms. 1800 peak. but im sure it varries by a couple watts. nowhere near what 4 type R's should be getting. and i never said they were a bad box. i said there generic and they are made to proform well with most subs. but you can get more out of a made to spec box to your woofer.

$350 is way too much for a box, thats almost as much as the subs cost. they should be priced around $100-$200 especially if its a simple box.

Ok. Let's assume that qualified installers built potted boxes for $200.00.
How long would we be there for follow up customer service? If the average box costs us $110.00 plus HST to build, we give a highly trained installer to build it for $40.00, do you think that we would be able to keep that installer working at our establishment for long? Could we entice other qualified people to work for us? We could hire less experienced guys to install for us, but then we would have the same crappy reputation as BB & FS.
Or, we could cheat the government and not pay the intallers taxes on that $40.00, but if we get busted, then all of us get to work for a box store where they don't value our education or experience.
The B option is to got to an establishment that suffers from poor reputation and get it done for your $200.00, but the port size is buffered because the installer just didn't give a and your subs sound like ***.
I have found that life is full of trade-offs. If you want cheap, then you lose somewhere else.
The people I work for are willing to pay a fair price to get what they want. After we're done, we help them to achieve what are looking for, because we can and because we actually care.
Personally, I would send you to Advance in Surrey. When you're done with them you can visit another shop to fix their mess.

haha... okay so NOBODY can build a good enough box for cheaper? you are the only people that can build a quality box is basically what you're saying, lol.
$350/5 hours of work=$70/hour

quality doesnt always cost more. im a student there is no way I can justify paying $400 for a BOX... A BOX MADE OUT OF WOOD, SCREWS, CARPET AND GLUE!!!

I rather buy a box off of ebay that is tuned to 35hz and has 2.0 cu ft.

It's never a simple box. A Box 'done correctly' takes time. If you are just looking to save money just because you THINK it's worth 100-200 - you are incorrect. As SQmonster said $350 is a very good price for PRO shop made box that is backed up with a warranty and years of knowledge. They more then likely have the right tools and software to simulate the results.

Yes, you can go to Home Depot and have them cut you the pieces(with 1/8 error tollerance?!?!?) which is UNACCEPTABLE in my eyes.

Materials alone, depending on the style of box, you are looking at a min of $70+ for materials. Finishing the box in carpet is min $20 to $40 depending on the glue.

QUALITY DOES COST MORE!

Yea but 110 of that is material so 240 for 5 hours is somthing like 50 an hour 3 roughly 25-30 for labour for the installer and there's 20 left for each hour for tools and a shop, sounds fair to me I would pay it,

agreed . if you want cheap go on cl and find a used one that is scratch and has had the subs removed and re installed 100 times and see how yours mount in there..and in there..your gonna spend $100 no problem...and not get the best results..or take it to someone that knows what there doin. spend $350 and get the perfect box that you will probally never have to replace.

and yes i hear everyone saying homedepo will cut the pces for you..i cant wait to see a box where someone has actually done this. i want to see how sealed and square it truely is.
if you want your gear to perform at its best like you expect it to when you bought it..you got to spend the moeny on the enclosure cause im sure everyone can agree that it doesnt matter what gear you have the enclosure is what can make or break you.
