you're not the one buying it so you dont have to worry about it being damaged.
Good luck with your box.

I've been a little rude, this is an advice forum, my bad, lol.

if anybody wants to give me advice on what material is best for boxes, or what I should ask the builder (material wise, screws, how he seals the box, etc etc) that would be great.
A $300+ box is out of the question so lets just stick to what I can buy.

this custom box vs a prefabricated one
Alpine type-R dual 12" ported sub box - eBay (item 230514125259 end time Sep-19-10 16:42:24 PDT)
(^ this guy is willing to build one to my specs and may use materials I request)

That box is a little on the small side, look for 4.5 cf^3. It doesn't say what year Type-R, so the mounting ring size might be different.

It's also REALLY important for us to know what kind of vehicle it is and the max dimensions for us to work with.

I just went outside and measured my current box. It fits perfectly in my trunk. This is the max size I can do.

LxWxH (inches)
32.5x17x15.58

custom boxes are not cheap, you can look at it mutiple ways. materials are going to be just as expensive as labour. having a proper box done is lots of labour involved, measuring, cutting, re measuring, then drilling pilot holes for the screws so the mdf doesnt split and then siliconing the seams. most important thing is getting the port size right, any idiot can throw a box together with pvc ports lol, mind you itll sound like ****. save urself the hassle and go to a reputable shop and spend the money. with the proper box you will get years and years of use and be happy with the outcome. if you dont wanna spend the money then car audio isnt the hobby for you. if you doubt me, try building yourself a box and then you will know how long it takes and how much of a pain it is.

find a friend with a jigsaw.. but a shitty 20 dollar drill.. ask for help with a design.. home depot will make your cuts. im at 110 bucks and about 5 hours in labour... my box is complete minus port. and its way bigger then you need.. i dont see how 350+ is fair either.. not for 2 12"'s you would need just over half the materials as me... so your cost would be even less then mine wich is still a fraction of a premade. i have pics up.
