Box for 2x12 insignias

Hey everyone,

I just bought 2 12" insignia subs from a guy and know nothing about them. I want to build my own custom box but I'm not sure about any of the specs. I've done a bunch of searches and haven't found much on them. I think they MIGHT be 200W rms 400W peak with a 600W amp (Just a guess).

Basically I need to know Vb and port/slot dimentions for a single chamber slotted box for the two subs. I want to make a wedge shape box with horizontal top, 45 degree angled slope for the subs and a vertical front piece (looks like a rotated diamond from the side). Top, angled piece and front piece made with plexiglass inserts and the ports or slotted vent located on the vertical front plate.

Sounds confusing, i know but im sure if i got the volume requirements for my subs and the port dimentions i could build it.

Thanks for any input

I helped a young friend of my sons with a pair of those. I think he got the 600 watt wrms amp and 2 subs for $150.00 from BB.

They will not like a ported box, at least they didn't like his anyway. Pretty high QTS on those subs i think. Sounded very muddy, box was about 3 cubic feet with 4" ports.

Here is a link to the specs http://www.insignia-products.com/ski...-P2000_WEB.pdf

I suspect you may hear some comments about that brand here, but you have to start somewhere. They were pretty loud once he put them in a sealed box.

Cheers

ok wellI think Im goin with a sealed box now. I have all the plans drawn up on autocad and all th materials listed. Now I just need to know what thickness of plexiglass I should use. I know that using 3/4 plexi would be more desireable but could I get away with using 1/2 inch without loosing any sound quality to it flexing? If you need to see the drawings ive made up let me know and I could post them. I'll be posing pics when I actually start the build anyways.

Are you going to mount them on the plexiglass itself? Or use the plexiglass as a "see thru window" deal?

As I remember, those were pretty big, heavy subs, so I would use the 3/4 for sure if mounting on the plexiglass, and probably 3/8 or 1/2 if it is just a window, depending on the size right? I.E. I wouldn't use 3/8 if my plexiglass sheet length was like 3 feet long.

3/4 and a double baffle for the subs if they are "big" lol or a 1" baffle and the rest of the box 3/4"

The plexiglass will be inserted into a hole cut out of the 1'' MDF baffle board (going to have to reinforce around the edges) and the subs will be mounted directly onto the plexi. There will also be another plexiglass window on the top as well as on the very front, mounted in the same fashion and the two chambers will be divided by plexi also. The interior of the box is mirrored and will have LEDs or cold cathodes mounted for show.

Exterior dimentions of the box are:
L-36.5"
H1-15"
H2-6"
D1-20"
D2-6"

making the baffle board 36.5" x 16.64" x 1"

A 1.5" edge of MDF before the plexi.
Top plexi - 34" x 4"
Front plexi - 34" x 4"
Baffle plexi - 34" x 14.14"

That sounds like quite a box. Love to see pics further along. Thats how we all get ideas...steal them

Did you get that long silver amp that comes as part of the package deal at BB? Thats what we used to drive them in his car. Ended up quite loud actually. For the money, he was very pleased with how it turned out.

Go create an account at a place like IMAGE SHACK or PHOTOBUCKET (something like that), then you can upload your pics and link them. Its easy. PM me for a hand if you like!

Now C'mon, get building!!! I want to see that box
