well after reading a huge long post and seeing it on and off topic a few times I'll add my to bits

as a installer
I didn't like dealing with uniformed sales people
and it got to be the point of yeah I'm just paid to put this stuff in the car I don't have to care about anything else and when I tried to speak up for a customer I was often told I was out right wrong in front of said customer

as a sales person
I was made a sales person for the last month I worked at the shop I was at and the managment there
was not bad but the general manger was a issuse
and didn't care if you knew a sub from a soup can
so long as you could move product many times we customers sold thing particulaly security stuff
that was either useless on redunant

as a consumer
if I don't know your first name or I just read it on your tag forget it I deal with the people I know
and the price is a issuse for me but I would rather spend $10 more and know that someone will back it
than buy a POS that was sold to me to make the bottom line I go where the guys show me whats worth buying

as a guy looking for a job
defro I wish there were more shops like yours
I am more than willing to bust my *** to make it work but when I'm done busting myself I like to know there is a company that will have my back when I need it my last 2 jobs have both ended becasue the employer wanted a 150% from me and was only willing to give back 75%

this industry need to have some people that are willing to teach sales people how to teach sales people becasue sales people become managers
and managers often become reps and if the people at the top of the food chain don't care about what the people at the bottom know then the consumer gets the shaft

sales is just like a comic there is your good guys and you bad ones the crumy part is the comsumers can't tell the differnce until they have been burnt

Nothing wrong with banging nails, I did many years of it, might have been paid only $3.65 hr and no OT but hey that was minimum wage in BC back in the day. We still busted our a$$ back then just like I have to a business owner today. A succesful 12volt business startes at the top and the top has to work hand in hand with the bottom, something that I enjoy doing.

Been there, done that. I like what I do now, but still enjoy getting my butt outside and doing some real hard work every now and then.

I think the industry is still basically the same. Now when people go to customize their cars, they can buy rims, shift ***** etc. Before it was always stereo then other things. I think retailers today concetrate to much on price. Retailers should sell themselves, and there skills. People nowadays, sell what ever anybody else sells in their flyers. Right now the stores that due high end and high margins are booked months ahead of time. The retailers who sell the 199 cd player and the 99 6x9s, are dead. Because they can not compete with the big box. My wife is a manager of Walmart, even customers from Walmart expect HUGE customer service. I think that most retailer and forgeting this, and trying to compete as big box retailers. Retailers now have to find their own niche in todays market. Their are very sucessful retailers in Canada that use these principals. I work with Future SHop, A&B, and Visions on a daily basis. THey are missing customers...and the smart independants are capitalizing on this. Defro's store, is the idea of this, he does huge systems, sells high end equipment. But he also takes care of his customers. He is a pain in my *** some times, but his success as a retialer can not be questioned. But once again his customers expect that standard of customer service. He sold himself...
