It's not a bad thing that car audio isn't popular because if F-U shop, best buy and all the other shops like them sold quality & non-maintstream brands than everyone would be louder and a lot of those people wouldn't care about the science behind it and there would be more complaints in response. Even I wouldn't want to be constantly hearing bass in a city because I get headaches like everybody else, think about the people with migraines. I don't want to hear bass drive by my house more than once an hour. Is that asking too much? It wouldn't be as impressive either. Not that I think that 100% you should know why your stereo is so loud but if someones stereo does 150 @ 30-40 Hz and they couldn't tell you what ohms are or what a port does than they almost don't deserve it. I suppose the future holds better performance in everything so by 2050 anyone might be able to spend $1000 and have the performance of what $5000 buys today. I hope it remains an "underground" DIY obsession where quality is a result of knowledge. A better question would be "who likes bass"? For most people who listen to rap or techno they love bass and lots of it. Superior car audio not being popular is probably because of high prices. When you first got into it tell me you didn't think WTF when looking at the prices of these daily & competition subs. You probably started with a smaller system because of it. Car audio is way more popular than this thread is giving it credit for because you're excluding the people who don't see the merit in spending as much as we do. The only reason I got into it was because of rap and because I didn't know how much bass could be put into a vehicle until I actually heard something loud. Realistically most people can barely afford their expensive setups so they save up for months, and people have so many other cheaper hobbies so at the end of the day most people are going to go for the cheaper stuff because they want it all installed & working by tomorrow.

I call bull on that. I know plenty of people that run have put a respectable amount of time and effort in to their front stage and don't even bother running a sub because they don't like it.

IN Ottawa there are really only 3 people who are in to audio at any kind of significan't level.

Myself, Nick (yo mamas pimp) and Lee (AAAAAAA).

As for shops.. there was only 1 installer in the city I'd suggest people go visit (Shon) but he has since moved to Cornwall....

In e-ho-bicoke there are a few guido's with systems, but they are all installs by jalat; more likely than not his old stuff too.
But there will be the few VW's and civics with bass, but never anyone i respect enough to talk to them about it in the Tim Hortons parking lot. I respect people are into it in the area, but they get it to get their jail bait g/f's wet as opposed to appreciating car audio as a whole.

I know people who listen to rap only and don't like subs, I don't consider that a full system though. Yeah it's not just subs but the most popular part of a system for most rap/techno afficiandos is the low end. For rap I'd rather run only a sub than only components, it's just not the same without it. Aftermarket decks are probably the most popular gear but would you call that car audio when the person has stock everything else? Like every 5th vehicle has an aftermarket deck so does that make car audio popular? Isn't it missing too many things?

In other words ... pretty much every car has a stereo. I guess that makes it as popular as the amount of cars in the world. See my point?

but alot of stock systems have subs too. so going by your logic they must all like rap music?

Scarborough is ok in the summer with the Kennedy Commons meets, but there aren't that many guys with stereos, more show cars and tuners.

Anyone in East York looking for a laugh though, make a trip down the Danforth in the summer on a Friday or Saturday night, always good to outplay those guys.
I live in East York, though I haven't had any bass going on for the last year, since my old caddy died on me. The trunk in the car I had for the past year was too small to fit the subs.

That's going to change this spring however, just bought an '07 Impala, shouldn't have a problem getting my box in there. Not a fancy system or anything, but it pounds. Can't wait to get it going again, that's for sure!

Danforth is an interesting place to go on the weekend ragardless, hahaha.
