it doesnt really matter if they're the same brand, just look for a pair of speakers that you like, and think sound good

figured, its just the in the beginning of this thread it looked like its not a good idea. Yet I see people do it all the time but thanks

yep, when people use the same rand, it's usually because they want them to match in appearance, or they have good experience with the one part from that manufacturer that they've already got, so they turn to them for more.

Also,
Like was previously mentioned, some speaker manufacturers' 'voice' their speakers different, so that a speaker from brand A may sound a tad bit different than a speaker from brand B...IE more 'tinny' or more 'sharp' , etc, depending on the materials used, etc...

Though I dont know if this would affect the 'average' listener...but then I am assuming you are above-average, Boomin

I, like Bigmike, say go with whatever you like, and can afford/find/ etc...

cheers

Every manufacturer is unique to their sound. Kenwood does not sound like Pioneer does not sound like Infinity does not sound like Alpine does not sound like, well you should get the point.....

Respectable speakers vendors spend considerable R&D dollars making sure their packaged drivers are compatible whether a good coaxial, component set, or whatever. Ask any respectable SQ fan who has compiled a multibrand front stage about the importance of voicing. There's a 4page post in the SQ section just about tweeters. It's important.

Will you achieve terrible sound if you buy Brand X instead of Brand Y when you have Brand A in there already? Probably not. Will it sound as good as it could? Probably not.

Maybe I am taking the purist's point of view and maybe if you are running $79 coaxials that the difference will be minimized since you may not listen critically anyway but if one can match brands for similar dollars then it is usually a good idea..

Well I hope to be building a whole new system in my new car in the future, it'll probably be a mix since I cant afford all of alpines gear lol But yah my next car is gonna have to be one to last awhile cuz thats where the moneys goin. To start with I have a pair of 10" Alpine Type R's, Pair of Blaupunkt 6x9's, and a Kenwood KDC 217s deck but im almost positive im gonna be getting an mp3 deck for the new vehicle. When I get the new vehicle or close to it the deck and my RF gear is on the market to be sold. I havent decided whether or not i wanna keep the Punch 200s yet. But do u see what i mean as for mixing gear? Alpine subs, different brand amp or amps, blaupunkt 6x9's, probably pioneer 5 1/4's dunno if I'll do tweeters. Etc. overall what do u think? I've a big summer plan ahead of me hopefully all goes to plan money wise lol

Dunno when im gettin started but I'll start with the subwoofers, deck and install of 6x9's. Then I'll be faced with Osap repayment and car payments. Hopefully I can get the alpine gear installed in a vehicle and compete this summer :D

hmmm I dunno lol I just like to feel the music :D but I cant stand distortion lol So Im Loudness and SQ at the same time if that makes any sense? Like I like it loud and love to feel it but if it sounds like crap or is distorting its crap to me lol

SQL baby!!

I got some alpine 5.25s and some fusion 5.25 mids i might sell if your interested teri;)

So don't sit in pauls truck:P

I prefer SQ over spl any day, but i do have my spl moments.

Dukks got it, from a SQ point of view you can mix and match... but it is easier to stick with one manufacturer. If you have time and money you can experiment, but otherwise fail cheep and smart with a single manufacturer.

basicaly if you spens like 200$ on front stage, dont go and spend 50$ on the back.. ull notice the difference. spend about the same. obviously the comps ur puttin up front are gonna cost more more than the 2/3-ways in the back cause of the x-over.

hard to explain but basicaly dont buy crap for the back unless ur buyin crap for the front.
