Dw, all I saw mention of was that the SPL cone had dual 2's instead of 4's... I bet its the same cone but we'll see....

Guys, Ive based my opinions on how Ive seen MTX market products before... and more importantly subwoofers in general...

This thing probably has 1" more xmech then anything else comming out on the market.. yet the runners up weigh and cost disproportunatly less... powerhandeling is peak, wow 10,000! the usual dimensionless (and probably inflated) sensitity rating... and the fact that they actually boast about how much it weights I think maybe tells us that there is alot of marketing going on... I really dont think I was off base about using it for SPL competition either...

So.. thats my opinion without knowing the actual specs or having heard one or seeing spl results...

I respect you guys if you want to say I might not be right.. hell, Ill be the first to admit it.... if this thing comes out and is the absolute best it could be then my hat will certainly come off to MTX.

Dual 2 and 4ohm coils...........not cones............

I hope you don't base opinions of people the same way you do with products.................

At least we know your opinion is based on really nothing........................I wouldn't want people to get the impression you knew what you were talking about...........

Thank you for clearing that up...............

Hey, great! I already have too much money! I'm going to order 4 of them, clamshell them and mount them in my H2. 4 clamshelled will require roughly the same air space as 1 regular, just I'll need 4 times as much power so I drop a huge chunk of change on 4 amps....

I wouldn't be surprised if it happens

how the hell would you clamshell them? it'd be 6 feet long!!! and you'd have to support the backs of the exposed drivers with an engine hoist!

On the issue of weight, I can see it using that much aluminum simply to dissipate heat, why not make it 350 lbs if it's a marketing ploy?

I agree that the FS may be subsonic, but that doesn't mean that it'll be a washout for SPL, throw enough power ot it, and displacing approximately 340 square inches, moving 5" peak to peak WILL produce SPL, period. ]

and for SQ... if I had the chance, I'd rip out my back seat to make room for one of those puppies!

Hmmm, what I see is a lot of BS.

As much as I hate to admit it, I agree with Tim and Dereck.....Haunz, Since you have not even seen the woofer up close, or read any meaningful specs, your oppinion that it won't do well in SPL cannot hold water, EVER.

I've never driven a Ferrari Enzo, but to say I don't like the way it handles, would be foolish BECAUSE I've never driven one......that MTX woofer may very well be the loudest woofer ever built and guess what....no spec is gonna ever going to confirm if a woofer is loud or not.

That's like buying preformance parts for your car and then telling people how much horsepower your car makes based on the fact that you added up the numbers on the side of the boxes that say "adds up to 20hp"

Why does MTX brag that the woofer weighs 300Lbs? Because people think it's cool.....if they built that woofer and it weighed 24.6 Lbs do you think they'd brag bout it? 300Lbs is a HUGE number...a woofer that weighs more than most human beings is pretty cool IMO....so yea it's for Shock value.....do 4x4 trucks need 20's and low profile tires...no, but people think it's cool and different, they have no use other than being different.....Why can't you see the big picture Haunz? Woofers like that are, simply put, a pissing contest.....who's got the biggest heaviest, most powerful sub......whether or not it works well for spl or sq is neither here nor there, the simple fact is, it works and it's big, therefore it's cool and people will shell out money for it.

Oh yea and I have a question too....not to be rude but why are people hung up on this 10Kw "peak" power rating.....WHO CARES?! RMS is all that matters anyway.

Anyone remember that Audiobahn sub that took 10Kw for about 10 seconds? the "peak" power rating was like 3Kw or something like that...1500WRMS.

Well, here's what I think...
... Nah, not even gonna bother. This topic has been beaten like a red-headed stepchild. On another note...

Fast, quick, and easy.
Looks like MTX has finally run out of adjectives. Don't get me wrong... I like the company and think they make outstanding products (I've used their amps before, and do currently), but this BS marketing stance they've taken of late just turns me off. I'll let the aforementioned product speak for itself.
