heard about using rockerguards, and undercoatings as soundproofing. obviously not as good but WAY cheaper. any thoughts? or better yet, any other products that would do a decent job cheap(cheaper)?

depends on if you want your ride to stink forever?

I love how people get a nice ride, put in quality components and then go "cheap" on the deadner.

the B quite, at this site works well and sticks nice, also cost effective. I've used it so I can commemt on it. as for the other stuff, you will have to ask someone else.

just wait for a deal on B quite extreem. shippings cheap to cause its in regina.

Saw a car that used Blue Shield (roofing ice + water protector) as a damping material similar to brown bread or BQ-extreme. In the hot weather it curled up at the ends and you could really smell it. Not good. I've only used brownbread before and its great. No smell, holds like crazy. Yes it costs money, save up for it instead of spending half as much for a disappointment.
Now if you want to rustproof areas like the inside of the outer door panels I've used crappy tire's rubberized asphalt undercoating spray. It doesn't smell once dried, rustproofs, and as the description on the can says, it helps to soundproof. I can't say to what degree, but it can't hurt.

Brown Bread all the way, good price, easy to apply too. I tried spraying a couple of cans of undercoating stuff onto the floor of my Jeep a couple of years ago, it never set up right and it just rubbed away underneath my carpet. Go with the BB!!

i haven't got into the "high end" stuff yet, and that's why i can't justify spending more on soundproofing that i have on components. i just wanted to know what the deal was on some stuff. anybody used home stuff, like weather proofing in walls or whatever. any 3M stuff going around. they make good products.
oh and please don't say buy the high end stuff, cause i'm not down with it. 3-4 times the price for just the slightest improvement is not what i'm looking for, i have a budget and other priorities, thanks for all the resposnses so far, i didn't realize brown bread was preferred so much over dynamat(which hasn't even been mentioned yet!)

I think the only people who use Dynamat these days are those who can get it for free Brown Bread is highly regarded as being a good value.

Using the Peel n' Seal or Ice Guard products from Home Depot has mixed results from what I've seen. Some say it can be terrible in hot weather for starting to stink and falling off trunk lids where others say it's only smelly the first few days and it's fine after that.
